  The former Twomax factory on Old Rutherglen Road in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. Originally built as a cotton mill in 1817, it was taken over by Twomax, a Glasgow-based knitwear manufacturer, in the 1920s. It closed in the 1980s, and has recently been converted into flats. On the top of the chimney is a rotating sculpture called Smokestack by Adrian Russell Lamb and Rita McGurn, which was installed in 1994. #glasgow #twomax #publicart #architecture #gorbals

  The cast-iron Bridgeton Cross Shelter, known locally as The Umbrella. A major landmark in the East End of Glasgow, it was made by George Smith's Sun Foundry in 1874. At one time, it has seating underneath and was a popular meeting place. It was restored and repainted in the early 2020s, and over 150 years since it was created, it remains an impressive and unique piece of street furniture. #glasgow #bridgeton #sunfoundry #streetfurniture #architecture

  A row of six circular 'coal hole' covers on Great Wester Road near St George's Cross in Glasgow. Invented in the mid-19th century, they contain hexagonal semi-prisms to bring light into the basement below. Once common, these are a feature of our historic street furniture which is gradually disappearing over time.   A plaque on Montrose Street in Glasgow (near its corner with Ingram Street) marking the original location of the Glasgow School of Art. The school was founded here in 1845 as the Glasgow Government School of Design, but changed its name to the Glasgow School of Art in 1853. In 1869, it moved to the McLennan Galleries in Sauchiehall Street, before moving to a new purpose-built building on Renfrew Street designed by former student Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1899.
