A row of six circular 'coal hole' covers on Great Wester Road near St George's Cross in Glasgow. Invented in the mid-19th century, they contain hexagonal semi-prisms to bring light into the basement below. Once common, these are a feature of our historic street furniture which is gradually disappearing over time. The prisms get broken and rather than having them replaced, they're filled in with concrete or covered over (as one of these has been). Cont./ #glasgow #streetfurniture
