The people in Quebec who make gorgeous gluten-free flour and delightful videos about baking with it (l’Angélique) started their three week vacation today. So I found a shop in the GTA (Bread Essentials) that carries it, has it in stock, and employs local couriers. Everybody should have the resources to make these kind of choices. Close your store to take time off. Specialize in what you care about. Hire people, not fungibles. Avoid Amazon and their ilk.

In chapter 5 of the Vimalakirti Sutra #MastoDharma, I decided not to cling to the notion that V is dissing disciples up to bodhisattvas. We read a lot of sick burns on disciples last week. Checked out OCAD’s annual grad expo. Design departments are strong. Painting and advertising not so much. More tea focused exhibits than I’d have thought. Many young adults with messages, more than half garbled or weakened by lack of technical grounding.

Went to Theatre Passe Muraille and watched Karma, a play set in Canada and Syria around 2012. Themes include civil war, family, secrets, and more. Satisfied, though I found the performances a bit uneven. Two reviews of the play from Friday’s opening night see flaws I don’t agree with. Digging a little deeper, I note the piece was workshopped in November with a completely different cast. Not lighthearted. Some superb performances. Good tech work with minimal resources.

Not watching the horror movie tonight. S and I watched The Wicker Man yesterday as a seasonally appropriate romp and seeing Christopher Lee have such a good time was a highlight of the weekend.

If you’re in the data centre business, it may be useful to build redundant services using separate physical hardware. Monitoring visible to the client, alerts, and signed SLAs could also help your operations teams. I’d say your reputation as well, but why bother.
