My take on North American Mother’s Day is the version of history in which the day is to work for an end to war (https://peacealliance.org/history-of-mothers-day-as-a-day-of-peace-julia-ward-howe/).
My mother is dead, having spent her final years in a facility for elders who require more care than their families and community can provide. I sometimes think about her.
I have two sisters who are mothers. Both are widowed with adult children who live at varying distances. I mostly see them at funerals and stay in touch by sporadic SMS.
I see myself more in the role of uncle than parent, for reasons I don’t readily disclose.
It’s the second Sunday in May. I hope you have good weather and strength to enjoy the day.
