The apocalypse is pretty wonderful.

I’m a USian emigrant who is currently living in Ireland and studying to get my Master’s in Library and Information Studies. Hey, whoever thought it was a good idea to be finishing up a Master's thesis two days before traveling half way around the world for life-changing surgery and then immediately returning to start a PhD course was a really shit planner. #itMe

So I alluded to this a few months back, but I just received word this morning that I have received PhD funding for the next four years! I never imagined that this would be the direction my life would take when I first came to Ireland to study, but I’m really excited about the opportunity!

It's funny how in my lifetime I've gone from: “you need to memorise everything and use offline sources if you want to navigate the world," to: “just bring your magic phone thingy and it will have all the answers for you," back to: “you need to memorise everything and use offline sources if you want to navigate the world" again.

Healthcare data collection in Ireland is consistently transphobic and needs to stop asking for shit that is irrelevant for the procedure being done

Me from three years ago would have thought that me from today was full of shit when I told her that: She would be working a patron-facing job in a libraryShe would LOVE the social interactionShe would always be gendered correctly by everyone At the time, I thought I was basically introverted (I was, because masking took a lot of cognitive energy). I thought that computer touching was the best career because I didn't have to interact with people very often. And I thought there was no way that...

You know how you spend your whole life hating yourself so you don’t set proper boundaries because you don’t matter anyway? And then you start to love yourself and decide that you deserve boundaries after all? I have a LOT of cleanup still to do from that first era of my life, and one of those poorly defined boundaries just blew up in my face. 😡

I think I’ve realised that in spite of the fact that I wish I had had a girl goth phase earlier in life, my aesthetic of choice is not, even soft, goth. I am okay with this. #basicBitch4Ever

I think something is shifting with my gender. Not so much in how I identify (woman), or how I want to present (basic bitch, usually). But today, for some reason, people either emphatically gendered me female or misgendered me in about equal numbers. And I didn't really mind? It used to bother me so much to be misgendered, but today I kind of enjoyed the confusion. I think I’m just getting less self-conscious about my identity. I'm a woman, and I dress the way many women dress, which...

One of the most sinister things that cisheteronormative society has done to trans communities is to weaponise our own experience of information marginalisation and epistemic injustice against us in order to undo the small amount of progress we have made toward inclusion in society. Because from birth, trans people are confronted with a foundational epistemic injustice. Society is set up to allow for only two options, "boy," and "girl," and our opinion on the matter is not as...
