18 months into medical transition, I find myself dreaming about having joined the women's soccer team β it was lovely. Then I woke and had to confront the political reality that trans girls and women are less free than we were just a few years ago, and that too many people I love have fallen prey to the right-wing psy-op, the thin end of the wedge, that is the trans people in sports "debate." Do me a favor and read this and learn from reputable sources. I'm so tired. https://...

I remember reading that the 2nd year of transition was especially spicy, and I can now confirm the rumors are true. Progress is no longer rapid. Dysphoria is well in focus but far from resolved. The uncanny valley of appearance means constant misgendering. And finally equipped to begin confronting the grief. Much to be happy about! More at home than ever. But it _is_ rough. My word. Thank goodness for my support network, including you π

Happy Caturday, my dears π₯° Today Pico-cat got lots of outdoor time, but he's no longer content to just explore or enjoy catnip. No, this time he needed to play and remind the world he's a ferocious beastie. Caterpillar unrelated, Pico and I just played with long grass. #Caturday #CatsOfMastodon #CatsOfFediverse

Feels good to be in a long term COVID study cohort and still be able to answer: nope, haven't had COVID yet. May my luck and risk mitigation strategies hold up π€π» (Vaccinations twice a year, frequent masking, and mostly outdoor events and dining are key for me.)

12 years since we met. 11 years dating. 9 years married. And 8 years to the day since we said, "I do," in front of all our favorite people. From being afraid of saying "forever" to wanting to stretch time into infinity. Each passing year our love grows deeper, safer, and richer, as we navigate life's ups and downs, become ever more ourselves, extend roots into community, and orient into the swirling chaos. Happy anniversary, @chrisjrn, my love π₯ Here...

I don't know who needs to hear this, but as of today I know at least one person does. Don't ask a trans person to talk at length about the intimate details of being trans, or your "nuanced" takes on trans people in sports, the first time you get to have a 1:1 with them. Even if they're a Public Trans Person Who Does Advocacy and Inclusion Work like me. Don't fuckin do it.

idk feels like today might be the time to call it, official time of death for the Google search engine either the incentive structure there is just irretrievably fucked or there's a product manager who decided jumping the shark was the best way to try to put an end to this "put LLMs everywhere" craze

One of the things that's on my mind these days. To quote the author: "A dilemma action is a strategic action that forces your opponent into a lose-lose situation. You've given them only bad options. I give some examples & then we talk about how to design them." https://www.lifeisasacredtext.com/force-the-oppressor-to-make-a-lose-lose-choice/ #Activism #Strategy

151 days until my big day β but I'm still in the process of landing job offers, and I've got another $6K to raise to make sure I can afford my gender affirming surgery. This is life changing for me and coming up short would be ... very complicating. Huge thanks to everyone who has already chipped in. I'm nervous but hopeful. Happy May Day, workers of the world! (That means you!) No shopping, no school, no work today. Today we flex our power to demonstrate our collective strength and find the cracks in our organizing that we'll need to address through mutual aid so that we can continue mobilizing β and build the capacity to launch a General Strike. There are actions everywhere today! Find and join one. Petaluma, we're protesting Target at 4pm. #MayDay #LaborDay #LabourDay #USPol #Petaluma #SonomaCo...

29 years ago today, Tasmania became the last state in Australia to decriminalize homosexuality. This hits close to home. History isn't all that distant. All my love to the queer and trans elders who fought for our rights in Tasmania, and all the people who grew up and suffered under these policies. I love you. https://tasmanian.com.au/stories/rodney-croome/

FTR I am _still_ getting spam solicitations for design and branding work after having dared to ask my local queer community for recommendations in an open Facebook group. Both phone calls and emails. No more texts, at least. Or if there are texts, they're getting filtered into spam before I see them.

Win the House and Senate. Win the Presidency. Pack the Supreme Court. Pass a binding code of ethics. Impeach justices who are known predators and perjured themselves. Pass a new expanded Voting Rights Act. Pass a federal ban on gerrymandering. Ban private money from electoral campaigns. LET'S GO! #USPol #SCOTUS #VotingRightsAct

Great library budget hearings... Then a special meeting in which I had to stick my neck out for the first time as Commissioner, and promptly received a high heart rate alert π Pleased to have done it, though. It was important and I stand by my remarks. Other Commissioners and staff seemed grateful.

OK, after this gubernatorial debate I feel better about Porter and worse about Becerra. I was never going to vote for Steyer or Mahan in the primary. This was a genuinely useful debate, and I look forward to the next two. #CAGovDebate #California #CAPol #USPol

First post-Swalwell gubernatorial poll has dropped. One primary beneficiary stands out: Becerra. He and Porter remain my top choices. But regardless of how YOU vote, just make sure you and everyone you know votes. Turnout matters more than persuading each other to coalesce around a given candidate. Here's the source for those results with info about methodology and the like: https://emersoncollegepolling.com/california-2026-poll-april/ #CAPol #USPol #California #Politics #Elections

Ask for recommendations and leads in the open on fedi or the atmosphere: lots of helpful suggestions from humans, or at worst, crickets. Ask the same on FB: a few helpful suggestions from humans, and a wave of invasive LLM-driven solicitations across multiple channels including my personal number.

I woke up and today the countdown clock says: 179 days to surgery. 6 months from now, I'll be waking up embodied in a way that's more _me._ 9 months from now, I'll be through the most difficult stages of recovery. After years of pouring myself into community work, I'm so grateful that people in those communities are showing up for me in my time of need.
