  IMO this has problems but not for the reasons people are saying https://1password.com/blog/1password-for-claude If you use Claude a lot, you will eventually want to give it some credentials. For 1Password, `op` (https://www.1password.dev/cli) already solved most of the problems. You can read secrets into the environment, or create sub-shells with the appropriate environment, all with opaque identifiers. It will invoke an auth dance / biometrics before proceeding This pattern is similar, but....

  There is an alleged paradox that LLM use has rapidly accelerated software development, especially new work, but hasn’t made existing software better or users happier. For established codebases, it might even accelerate entropy. Is that a paradox? This is what we had before. Only faster.   Anecdotal Claude Coding results this week - generate a React web page that queries an API: insanely good, 10x faster, arguably better quality than what I can do - a complex data warehouse query: probably 10x slower, worse quality, and especially if you consider all the times it led me down blind alleys and then forgot what it was doing Maybe data engineering is harder because it has the least boilerplate?   All right, in this brave new era, it seems that git worktrees are the way to go for simultaneous feature dev I’ve been managing them a bit ad hoc. The company has a monolith plus many microservices that internetwork locally with docker-compose, so there are issues to solve like - keep disk usage down - worktrees with only what’s needed - don’t clobber each other in the network - keep the purpose of each change clear in your mind Some of my colleagues wrote their own tools to help. Suggestions?

  For the first time I ever I looked at Polymarket. It boggles my mind that the most liquid market is on the price of Bitcoin, volume ~34M USD. Like there is already a direct way to bet on that, it’s called Bitcoin. I am often naive and slow about these things. But wha does this mean? Some casual investors just find it more convenient to bet on Polymarket than actual Bitcoin? Some traders want to take advantage of a less informed, more manipulated platform?

  mixed feelings about missing the Atmosphere conference currently at UBC. Spouse and I are on a mini working trip elsewhere in BC mirrors my mixed feelings about Bluesky/ATProto generally. Some great people are in that space but it is very unclear to whose benefit all of this will be. Even disregarding the perfidy of the dominant company, I don’t buy the premise that distributed networks are meaningfully more free, nor that social media feeds are a net good. Other than that it all seems cool 🤷‍♂️
