The part of writing I spend the most time on is probably staring at the blinking cursor with absolutely nothing on the screen, wondering what the heck I'm supposed to be writing about.

Some people seem legitimately surprised #Fauci pleaded the Fifth. It seemed pretty obvious the whole point in having him testify was to entrap him. Comments made by #RandPaul and others leading up to the hearing made it obvious. They were planning on throwing him in prison for the rest of his life if they asked him what time it was and his watch was off by a minute. Since Biden already pardoned him for anything in the pre-Trump era, something "new" is all they have. https://ww...

Just watched #Supergirl. Didn't hate it. It was definitely better than the last Supergirl movie I saw.

Really sad to see this, but there's so much of what @jorijn@social.jorijn.com wrote in this post that I can relate to. If you're someone in the toot.community community and want to join #Fosstodon, drop me a DM. #Musk: "We are 1,000% going to go bankrupt as a country and fail as a country, without AI and robots." This is the shit that annoys me. We NEED AI and robots or we're doomed! Coincidentally, #Elon sells #AI and robots. I don't think AI is evil and should be avoided at all costs. I think it has its uses if handled properly, but I also think #ElonMusk is full of shit and just trying to add even more money to his coffers. He'll say what he thinks needs to be said to do it. h...

When I was a kid, I lived in a rural area of #Montana. Rural by Montana standards. As I've gotten older, I've moved to bigger and bigger cities. First #Bozeman, then #Reno, now #Phoenix. I can see less and less stars with each move. Right now, I'm "vacationing" in rural Arizona, and I'm taking my time looking at the stars. In the 80s, seeing a satellite was an event. It almost never happened. Now, they litter the sky. I don't like where this is going.

My security cameras pick up a surprisingly large number of Waymos driving past my house when you consider I don't live in an area Waymo covers. I have confirmed they are driverless and don't seem to be carrying any passengers. It's like they're going for a drive.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica/116834783814639866 Google's worried about your data!! It's the same BS every time. If you don't let Google have a monopoly, it could expose your data! Apple's the same. If the EU doesn't let Siri AI have more access than anybody else, then it could expose your data! Classic FUD. It's right up there with "think of the children!" It's so tiresome.

My wife sent me this because she knows how small details like this annoy me. I'm not OCD (or at least I've never been diagnosed as OCD). I get the joke, and it's funny, but I think it's fake. If it were me, that backwards pill would have been the first one out of the pack. It's center aligned, so it would have come cleanly out of the package without messing up the order. The second one would have been the other middle, and then work my way outwards until the only pills left...

I'm not sure who turned me on to @Daojoan@mastodon.social's blog. I think it was @kev@fosstodon.org, but I could be wrong on that. Regardless, I really liked this post of hers, especially with the world today as context. I highly suggest giving it a read. I'd like to think she writes the way I would. You know, if I was smarter and actually a good writer. https://www.joanwestenberg.com/be-thou-not-pilled/

I really like seeing this. Too long open source software has felt like an afterthought when I think it should be the default when it comes to government. Why are our tax dollars lining the pockets of private corporations and individuals just so they can make small changes and charge us for them again next year? https://news.slashdot.org/story/26/06/06/0618217/eus-tech-sovereignty-package-includes-29-pages-on-open-source-says-open-source-initiative

I ran across this article from CNET cautioning me, "Don't Buy a Refurbished or Used Windows 10 Computer". I have it a quick glance and found that it has no interesting advice for me. Basically, their argument is if it's Windows 10, it probably won't run Windows 11. But, what if I don't want to run Windows 11? Or 10 for that matter. These "old" and unupgradable Windows PCs are perfect for Linux, which somehow does even warrant a...

I'm unsubscribing from all my YouTube channels. I'd like to say that this is because of some sort of moral objection to Google's data mining all the things, but it's really because my children have taken over my YouTube, and I'm more likely to get a recommendation from Google for some weird kids game than I am for something I'm actually interested in. Thankfully, YouTube videos still support RSS, so I'll just put the channels I'm in...

If you're having friends follow you to Fosstodon from other social media sites, first of all thank you for the recommendation. Second, PLEASE make sure they mention something about FOSS or technology in the "Why do you want to join?" section. If they put something like "I want to follow friends" or "Elon sucks", they're probably not going to be accepted. You can follow friends from anywhere in the fed, and whether Elon sucks o...

I saw this comment earlier today regarding Fosstodon's announcement of defederation from mastodon.cloud. "I'll move, but I don't see much evidence that this is really necessary. I'm doubtful that many/any instances are going to follow you." I don't want this to be a post about the person who made the comment, so I'm not linking. I am curious, how many instances have taken action against mastodon.cloud? Limits or blocks? I kno...

RE: https://fosstodon.org/@fosstodon/116426844488528606 Looks I have about 28 people who follow me that currently live on mastodon.cloud. The moderators and admins of Fosstodon have decided they're going to defederate from this instance because it's unmoderated. The admin(s) have been inactive for ~3 years and the software is out of date. Because it's got open registration and no moderation, it's being used by less scrupulous individuals for spam and other not to...

Ran across this article on Hacker News. It's got a few months under its belt, but it surprised me #Mastodon didn't warrant a mention. I'm a huge fan of #RSS, and get most of my news that way, but it's also a Mastodon feature. I don't always "follow" Mastodon accounts from Mastodon. Sometimes I follow them through RSS. Every Mastodon profile has at least 2 RSS feeds, and they can make following some profiles incredibly handy. Social media...
