If you're having friends follow you to Fosstodon from other social media sites, first of all thank you for the recommendation. Second, PLEASE make sure they mention something about FOSS or technology in the "Why do you want to join?" section. If they put something like "I want to follow friends" or "Elon sucks", they're probably not going to be accepted. You can follow friends from anywhere in the fed, and whether Elon sucks or not isn't going to change based on which instance you're on.
