  As much as I am a fan of the idea of Flatpak, and how I believe it's the only practical way for regular users to operate a Linux system, this is not a good UI experience. Which Thunderbird am I supposed to install? Clicking on them, the two first are from "Thunderbird Project", while the third (as well as Betterbird) are from "MZLA Technologies, part of the Mozilla foundation". I think the latter is the right one to install, but how would a user not deep into this stuff...

  Last week I came back from vacation, and the cats were unusually clingy. I guess they were worried we'd leave again. So, one cat decided that the best way to show affection was to walk back and forth in front of my feet.   I implemented support for the graphics API in the web-based implementation. Getting the html components laid out correctly was the thing that took 90% of the time. UI layout was a solved problem in the 90''s. Why is this still such a struggle? Anyway, it kinda-sorta works now, so here's an example Go ahead and follow the link and click on 'Send' to try it.   So I was watching some presentations at Black Hat today, and while the content was pretty good, more than one presenter had created slides with diagrams that had that classic llm look. You know, the one with way too much text and pictures, arrows that point in weird directions, and boxes full of text. And which doesn't make sense one you actually look at it. Other than the headline, the things that are included in the diagrams have no actual meaning. And when they do, the meaning is wrong....

  I saw the following in a reply on the orange site: Lately, I've started contemplating learning LUA since it's easy to work with and tied to Roblox, for game making, but again, AI's put a pause on all things related to learning, as far as mentally absorbing new stuff is concerned. I don't see the point I wish I had a funny reply, but this is just tragic. It really does happen to some people, and I fear that this reaction is exactly what the people in charge of this wants.

  I started working on making the Swing UI for Kap useful. The world of UI development has gone backward for the last... well... 20 years? And I've come to realise that using any UI framework that originated on this side of the millennium is actively worse than using an older one. It's remarkable how refreshing it is to use a GUI API which is designed with actual GUI's in mind, and not an overengineered document model. How did it get so wrong? #programming #gui

My employer is looking for someone with devops skills (Linux, databses, networking and development) who's willing to work in Singapore.
