I'm queerly the 'Leigh you searched for! 😉 I do assorted tech things, enjoy pinball, try to draw, make a little music now and then, occasionally still watch anime, miss jumping in the ocean and breathing underwater (damn health issues), and marvel at how I’ve lasted this long in this world. Trying to do my part to make it better for others. 💖

Hmm, LinkedIn (aka Microsoft) is letting people “privately” flag posts that seem like AI slop… 🤔 seems like a clever way to trick people into training a LLM model to produce output that fewer people will recognize as the garbage-output it is. So yeah, maybe *don’t* click on that. https://www.engadget.com/2227188/linkedin-testing-seems-like-ai-slop-reporting-tool/

> The new law would fine developers $500,000 every time a user generates a nonconsensual adult deepfake using their products. xAI says that with that rule in place, it would have "no practical choice but to restrict Grok Imagine's image-editing features in various ways when the statute takes effect” [nods rapidly] Yes, Elon, that’s the WHOLE DAMN POINT of passing the law!! 🙄🤦♀️ https://www.engadget.com/2225792/xai-challenging-new-minnesota-law-banning-nudify-apps/

Well, I guess that’s ONE way to distract people from how much your food and beverage quality has declined… You can fuck right off, Timmies. 🖕 And don’t forget, more Canadians choose eff’ing *McDonald’s* coffee over yours now! https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/tim-hortons-harry-potter-jk-rowling-9.7287100

Nothing new here, it’s just really nice to see the case for “the Liberals are just the small-c conservatives” made so effectively. #CanadianPolitics https://thetyee.ca/Analysis/2026/07/23/Mark-Carney-Red-Tory/

It’s absolutely stunning and flabbergasting, the CRIMINAL shit these AI companies keep getting away with. Here’s hoping there are at least civil penalties. https://www.engadget.com/2221044/openai-sued-over-chatgpt-health-advice-that-almost-killed-a-pastor/

“ChatGPT maker OpenAI said Tuesday that its artificial intelligence system hacked into another AI company on its own in what the company called an “unprecedented cyber incident.”” So the very people who DESIGN and RUN the artificial “intelligence” seemingly can’t prevent it from committing actual crimes now?? Yes, let’s trust ALL our data to their Agents!!! 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2026/07/21/openai-says-its-ai-technology-acted-on-its-own-in-an-unprecedented-hack-of-another-company/

Apple is getting ready to put ads in their Maps very very soon, and I’m just over here ✨coincidentally✨ checking out CoMaps as an interface for OpenStreetMap… 😇 It’ll take a little time to get used to the UI differences, but yeah… I think I can work with this. 💖 https://www.comaps.app/

Wow. I don’t really have words here. Pete Hegseth announces gender-affirming care for low-T soldiers https://xtramagazine.com/power/pete-hegseth-testosterone-military-283384 “Hormones are fine if they are given to a cis man “warrior” in the aid of Hegseth’s quest for “maximum lethality.” But god forbid trans people access them to save their lives—or cis and intersex women be allowed to compete at the Olympics with their naturally occurring levels, for that matter. That would be too woke. That...

EFF has been wrong about a solid number of things lately (mainly AI-related) but they’re still 100% spot-on when it comes to THIS. It was _awfully_ telling when Google decided “don’t be evil” was no longer a good rubric for decision-making. I feel utterly duped for having worked there so long (14 years!) and not knowing the kind of company I was _really_ helping to build with my little contributions back in the day. I can’t say I’d undo it if I could — it changed my life for the better in so man...

RE: https://lgbtqia.space/@leigh/116858193938602988 These unofficial results (polls aren’t closed yet) are the opposite of what I expected! But that just proves I was right to ask. 🙂 Last chance to convince me I’m not in the minority on this. 🤭

“But if we abolish the police, who will you call when there’s a crime??” Hmm, let’s check in with this store owner who begged the police for help for *weeks* but then got arrested and charged himself for finally fighting back against someone smashing his windows. And he’s even a white dude! Just imagine if he weren’t. I don’t know what an ideal post-abolition world would look like, but that doesn’t mean we should keep the current system. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/timmins-reptile-s...

I have no idea if people generally share my opinion about this or not… so I’ll ask! The results will be skewed by the fact that people using Fedi are typically more tech-savvy than average, but that’s ok for my non-scientific purposes. Please boost for reach? 🥺 If Website A has a link out to another Website B, do you prefer that Website B opens in the same browser tab or in a new tab by default?
