  I’ve been reflecting a lot on walkability of a town from the perspective of a child. I have a test I run every place I visit: can you give your 7 yo child 5 euro, ask them to go buy bread at a bakery 1km away and be confident that they will: - find their way after walking with them a few times and - not get killed by an SUV driver. I have visited many towns and cities in Europe and cannot think of a single one that passes the test. Can you? Where is it? (please boost for science)

  How much did your parents share their hobbies and interests with you when you were a child? My mom sewed most of my childhood, and while I love sewing I am mostly self-taught as an adult. Aside from insisting I read (but not the same books as them), I don't remember my parents inviting me in their hobbies, or taking a huge interest in mine besides bringing me to clubs and classes.   Whenever someone says something "isn't political", I immediately spend five minutes looking into the topic, and wouldn't you know it, it is ALWAYS political. "This isn't political" usually means "my privilege makes me immune to consequences of this going wrong, and I don't want to look into this any further."

  I am researching ways to minimize the impact of light pollution on wildlife of all sizes, with a focus on insects, in an industrial area. "Just turn it all off" is off the table, but I can make arguments for reducing it. I want to find out what is actually effective.   If you are a parent of a nursery or school-age child, does your nursery/ school have an explicit policy on taking photos of children while on the premises? If so, does it include a clause on connected glasses? I am parent representative for my child's nursery, and I wonder if connected glasses are worth discussing explicitly, or if they fall under the general "don't photograph other people's children" rule. #parenting

  Something anecdotal I have noticed in my rural town: I see plenty of teenage boys riding bikes, but rarely teenage girls. I am wondering if this is something unique to where I am (small town in the middle of Denmark) or something more widely noticed. Can others let me know if they see a similar pattern?   A great tragedy in my life is that I like wearing long dresses and flowy trousers, but I also enjoy ride a bike that has no guard around the chain. This is especially an issue when I’m cycling to work as I do need to look presentable there and cycling gear is… not that. How do fellow #biketooter solve this problem? Ankle straps? Tying up dresses? Changing rooms?

  It’s a travesty that 5 years after the event, we still don’t have a movie or a mini-series about the Evergiven and the Suez Canal. It was the most glorious global news story ever. It impacted many, yet hurt no one. It had global commerce drama and slapstick comedy. It unfolded hilariously, spurred a thousand memes. We could all watch this re-enacted without feeling bad. It could be a drama or a comedy. It could be staged with 5 different POVs. Working title: “Never-given”.

  Every few months, while I cycle to work, I notice I am putting more effort, getting a little bit more breathless, and tell myself I need to do more exercise to get in better shape. And then @Pepijn glances at my bike, picks up the pump and inflates my tires. Inevitably, the next time I ride, I feel like I’m flying.   A pure toddler moment today: A ladybug landed on my hand, and I showed it to the Hobbit expecting a "woooowwwww" but instead the little hand of doom immediately moved to smash it. I luckily moved my hand away in time and no ladybugs were harmed in this Toddler Teaching moment. #parenting

  Heard a colleague say "we weren't rich, just middle class" about their childhood and we need to remind more people that if you are middle class in a western country, you ARE rich. You think you're not because you're comparing yourself to the 10% of people who are richer than you, but you should be looking at how you're doing compared to the 90% of people on this planet who have less than you.   Input needed from #Czech train users: In a #ComfortJet train, is the upgrade to 1st class worth it? I have the option to purchase 1st class tickets (my employer is paying! it's allowed in the travel policy!) but I still feel a bit cheeky going from 2nd to 1st (am I being classist to myself?   Whenever someone sends me an AI-generated video, I feel disturbed by the content without being able to put my finger on why. There’s such a gap of reality, even in the nice looking ones where people have the correct amount of limbs. I would ten thousand times rather look at shitty art made by someone who picked up a pencil for the first time in their lives yesterday.

  Welcome to the year of using up all the expired seeds: I have a small hoarder-collector problem with buying cute heirloom seeds every year and never using them all properly. Over time, this has led to a large collection of expired seeds. So this year, I am not buying any new ones, and instead will plant what I have, to see what comes up. So far I planted tomatoes (3 types including one expired in 2019), squash (exp 2021), basil (exp 2020) and green beans (exp 2019). Wish me (them) luck!
