Sometimes I find news articles just fail to answer the big question. For this one, "is the shipping company liable to pay the millions in cleanup costs, and if not why not?". https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/jul/22/billion-plastic-pellets-nurdles-spilled-uk-river-ships-collide

Omg am watching Groovejet on #totp 2000 and a guy in the audience is wearing a shirt I have. Which I last wore on Friday. Does that make it vintage?

I very much enjoy everything about Lambrini Girls except that Phoebe sings in a single note on all their songs. #bbc6music

Oof. Just noticed that I was using 85% of system memory (usually <50%) and my Beige.Party browser tab was using 4GB! Who knew doomscrolling used so much memory.

I had a very unusual day (for me at least). I *went to a bar for the afternoon* in *Central London*. And a little walk round Seven Dials in the sunshine. Quite pleasant.

I do love discovering obscure music genres - like Witch House or Shamstep. Tonight I'm going down a Coldwave rabbit hole - 70s/80s European synthy new wave - after listening to Polaroid/Roman/Photo by Ruth.

Help me, Fediverse. My earworm tonight is Sunny by Boney M. (because the legendary Sonni of Southall is going to fix a broken phone screen). I thought this was on a movie soundtrack - I was thinking The Big Lebowski - but can find no reference. Anyone?

I just had a nostalgia trip about the diviest dive bar, the beloved Mars Bar in NYC. I would take visiting friends there (pre warned) and they would still be shocked - from the cockroach scuttling across Ashley's hand to the regular who got confused about what end of the room he was in and started pissing against the bar. But a great jukebox, great staff, cool vibes and interesting people. I was lucky enough to travel back to NYC the last week it was open and have a farewell beer the...

Not sure if I'm hat/tipping Andy Kershaw but I've been in an African music mood while cooking. Rachid Taha from the North, down to the Congo with Konono No 1 and KOKOKO!, then zipping to South Africa with The Joy. Cooking that traditional African dish lasagne, BTW... But maybe a tagine and some derek tibs could happen next week!

Hey #homeassistant peeps. What's your experience on device longevity? I've been using smart devices for around six years and have seen quite a few devices fail in the last year - I've replaced a sonoff window sensor and motion sensor (my first devices) and have three malfunctioning bulbs. Given a smart device is maybe five times the cost of a dumb equivalent, I had hoped for a longer lifetime. Am I expecting too much?

OTD 2023. Listening to 1991 Sub Pop tour de force Eight Way Santa by large-than-life grunge also-ran Tad, and ruing the fact that I never went to (unrelated) Tad's Broiled Steaks in NYC.

Je vais en vacances a Bordeaux en juillet. Does anyone have recommendations for things to do (other than improving my French?) Either things to do in the city, or day trips (Perigord perhaps). We're in St German De La Riviere, so Libourne tips appreciated too. #bordeaux #vacances

I am infuriated by the current Waitrose magazine which is pushing exciting new flavour profiles such as "swicy" (sweet and spicy). FUCK OFF. Acting like this is a new invention and giving it an infantile Instagram friendly name as if nobody in the modern fucking world has time for more than two syllables. Yeah, I've been making mango habenero sauce for the last thirty years thanks. You can shove your swoasty in the fucking sea, along with picky fucking teas while you...
