@julianlawson I haven't had much problems with my Shelly devices and have around 100+ now (half of those are probably 3 years old, 1/5'th is probably 5-6). only a couple failures but those were almost all battery powered devices. I only have one (shelly) smart bulb, the rest of my lights are normal lights that have a shelly / shelly dimmer behind them. @julianlawson I started off with a variety of Tuya based bulbs, all WiFi connected, different brands like Calex etc. In the first year they had approx a 50% failure rate. I replaced them all throughout the house with unbranded ZigBee bulbs from AliExpress and in three or four years only one failed. I've also got ZigBee radiator valves, environment sensors, door contacts, switches (IKEA) and motion sensors - every one is still running fine.

@julianlawson I've been running some simple things: lights, motion sensors, and a few switches, for five or six years. The little GU10 spots in the kitchen are the only things I know I've replaced. Usually a failing component turns out to be a flat battery in some switch somewhere breaking the mesh. :-)

@julianlawson I've had reasonable success with the Phillips and IKEA bulbs, they have been in place 5+ years. The IKEA motion sensors mostly ok, just batteries. The rest of the acara motion, temp door are also good

@julianlawson there’s definitely a balance to be struck between the safety/reliability of more expensive devices, and cheap imports. I have a load of Phillips Hue bulbs that have been going for 10+ years, but integration with them is getting and harder and they’re hideously expensive. Ikea bulbs are a lot cheaper, but I’ve recently a load fail after 8 years. Universal advice also applies: buy stuff that’s directly accessible/controlable if possible. Avoid cloud services that can be withdrawn.

@julianlawson Hm I cannot contribute much as I've only recently started getting into it, however I bought the Hue starter set a long time ago (>10 yrs). That came with the bridge, lamps and a switch. The bridge never had any issues, and the lamps seem perfectly fine except one "lost" it's connection and is now a normal one in our house (haha). And the switch recently started being buggy as in you have to press the most used buttons like 5 times so they work.
