  @nova@hachyderm.wtf shell script and javascript lose because of arbitrary code execution. YAML loses because of significant whitespace. JSON loses because comments aren't allowed (although some parsers diverge from the spec on this). The winner on technicality is YAML because an on-spec YAML parser lets you do JSON with comments.

  I've been playing D&D on and off for over 20 years now, across 4 different editions. Maybe I've finally graduated from the advice "beginners shouldn't play caster classes" 😅 .   @Shauna I think not seeing the favourite counts on posts in your timeline has something to do with how federation is slower to propagate them, but I'm not sure. I need to learn more about the tech. But faving doesn't cost anything and there's no algorithm for them to influence so I'm being very generous with them!   @thomasfuchs @dnf this reminds me a lot of how HTTPS didn't really finally start to gain serious traction until the mid 2010s and only in the 2020s is it finally reaching a point where it is ubiquitous. It's the same level of naivety and irresponsibility to deploy these new technolgies without also developing the technology to guard against deliberate and motivated adversarial interference.

  @futurebird I've taken a cursory look at the code and from what I can tell preliminary support for OpenID Connect was added by a contributor in 2021. But low level support is only the first and arguably easiest part of the story. All the other parts of the app that interact with user authentication (login pages, admin panels, backups, etc.) have to be updated to have first class support for the new technique and all the complexity that comes with it.   @danhon this is such a tough one to me since it really feels like the decision of which artifacts from the past deserve and need to be forgotten is highly subjective. There are many cases where evidence of the past is harmful to the person but valuable to society. I suppose this is an extreme and dramatic example, but murderers demonstrate that point well. But my cringe adolescent journal entries? I certainly don't want to read them again, and I hope they're truly lost to time.
