I need a gut check on the idea that NYC Mayor Mamdani has "doxxed" a whole bunch of rich people. I'm trying to find out more about this idea but almost everything I'm finding in the search is garbage right-wing sources. And buried in one of the articles was the acknowledgment that it's a matter of NY state law of publish property records that would be affected by new taxes. So what is it? Doxxing? Or state law? I'm very confused. 🤔

I have just found out apparently that my teen has heard about Bill Maher and doesn't at all care for the dude. "He is a confused man…he needs to pick a side." Have I ever mentioned that my teen is very wise for their age? 😊 #ProudDadMoment ❤️

I'm pleased to inform you no agents of mine escaped containment today. Well OK, one did briefly, but he meowed politely and I let him back in the house. 🐈

Yo, I'm heading up a brand-new community project. 👥 We write code by hand. 🤚🏽⌨️ It's a growing opt-in directory of software developers who write code by hand. When you hear someone tell you “nobody does that” you can point to this and say “well these folks do.” If you're #ProCraft and care about the future of handcrafted software, please add yourself to the list! I'd love to see this grow to 100s of signatories (I know y'all are out there!) and really send a message. https:...

RE: https://mastodon.social/@404mediaco/116992417815126953 Slop is spam. Platforms have decided it's OK to host spam. They think it's OK to spam their user base. They think scamming people with endless slop spam is a great experience. 🤨

Good morning (or evening) fellow #WebDev friends! I have officially kicked off a new "ecosystem” of #HTML first, vanilla #JS adjacent tools I am calling Heartml. And we now have a website! https://www.heartml.dev The first library, a helper for building web components called Reciprocate, came out a while back but its been newly homed here. And the new library(ies) I've been plugging away at since last year is finally here! Introducing “Ride The Streetcar” 🚋 Server 🔀 Client DOM upd...

I just want to state for the record I'm completely on board with all of the ToU changes at #Codeberg. 🚫 Ban cryptocurrency. 🚫 Ban slop. It is long past time to reel in the technolibertarian dystopia we've all been suffering through for years now. I truly believe in *heavily* moderated spaces which protect people and keep communities safe, and I couldn't be more proud to host (almost) all of my open source software on Codeberg now.

Reminder: undisclosed slop machine usage, even in so-called "human in the loop" scenarios, is a form of reputation laundering. That is, you are using your reputation as a human with expertise to provide cover for a technology which stands in direct opposition to human expertise. If the excuse for not disclosing usage is "well people don't like it and will be mad at me," the appropriate question to resolve is why people don't like it, not why you unethically chose to...

So Apple sux, I go over to using Linux. “Linux has never been a social warrior project. If you don't have technical reasons, you don't have reasons. So keep your ethics where they belong - in your personal life. Don't try to enforce your ethics on others.” –Linus Torvalds 😵‍💫 This entire thread is hella stinky. 💩 https://lore.kernel.org/linux-media/CAHk-=wi7KN9_DYdmaE2chC92EhTrO=Wtx1bPBER-EQfAZ8FREg@mail.gmail.com/

RE: https://sauropods.win/@futurebird/116885086560257189 My take on Taylor Lorenz is she so desperately wants to be seen as a good person fighting for the little people, yet she keeps making decisions which reveal that she's just extremely good at promoting the personal brand called Taylor Lorenz. Plenty of better sources of information out there, folks.

I'm almost at the point where I hate data centers more than I hate the actual technology itself. Because as awful as the slop machines are for the damage to the digital environment, that's quickly becoming eclipsed by the damage to our actual environment—an absolutely inexcusable outcome in an era when we are dealing with the deadly effects of climate change. Like literally, right now, people are dying. It's despicable and it's grotesque. https://newrepublic.com/article/212169...

Mark Cuban: “It’s time for everyone to realize that the fight against data centers has nothing to do with data centers…” Au contraire, mon frère! Later on he did have some worthwhile things to say, but I am growing very tired of being lectured to that the thing people are protesting is not the thing people are protesting. Actually, people know *exactly* what they're protesting. And why. We don't need you billionaire-splaining what it is we're doing. 🤨

Reviewing 20 years of photography across multiple cameras on a large monitor (as I have lately) will lead you to one inescapable conclusion: Smartphones are a *poor* substitute for proper cameras. 😅 I've started using my #NikonZfc way more again lately. The quality of a good mirrorless or DSLR is still so much better, and the experience of using a camera with a nice lens and manual controls is infinitely more satisfying.

Today's #Caturday is from the mists of time… Say hello to Buster from the year 2008! He was my neighbor's cat who befriended me and liked to hang out on my porch all the time. Even snuck into my house on more than one occasion. Buster was one of the most dear & friendly felines I've ever encountered. I was genuinely sad when his humans moved away… 💔

I have now met *three* different configurations of person(s) over the past four days IRL who are on Mastodon, from happenstance to planned meetup. Definitely feeling happy about the #fediverse presence in #PDX! 👏☺️ If you're in the #Portland OR area and wanna hang sometime, DM me! 🤙

So, some You Know What-pilled tech bro I apparently had started following some while back showed up on Mastodon after months of inactivity, saying "I've mostly been on X, but now I'll post here too!" and began sharing links to their articles all about You Know What. Never unfollowed anyone so fast! 💨 😼

I came out to the grand opening of East County Library in Gresham, now the second-largest library in Multnomah County. And wow! I was expecting it to be roomy, but this is next level! Very impressive inside and out. Huge crowd too for all the introductory festivities. Turns out, people *love* libraries. Who knew? 😉 #PDX #PNW

I thought commencement speeches were supposed to be about, like, here are some of the experiences I've had in my life and what you might be able to glean from them. These cringe shills for the slop machines who get rightly booed by the student body…they're out there just outright advertising some new technology?! That's sales & marketing, not coaching.🤪 Never has this quip been more apt: ok boomer

I know we're supposed to have moved past such things, but I wouldn't be above a little tarrin' & featherin' when it comes to these oligarchtechmagabros. RE: https://mastodon.social/@jilleduffy/116593522913243021 Oh yes, I've been talking about this for a long time. Your brain needs significant periods of low-intensity tasks in order to provide you with the bursts of intense creative flow states. If you're attempting to crank it up to the max the whole time, you're going to turn to complete useless mush very quickly. People who actually understand creativity and productivity know this, which incidentally don't se...

RE: https://henshaw.social/@jon/116598946909670049 I've said it before, I'll say it again. MCP is the new AMP. And like AMP, it will soon go the way of the dodo. Even Google seems to understand this. Efforts to add & promote MCP on websites is a colossal waste of time & resources much better spent elsewhere.
