Propranolol suppresses most of the physiological warning signs of hypoglycemia. But not the hypoglycemia itself, obviously.

My brother used to make fun of me for being a picky eater because I wouldn't, I dunno, eat cold hot dogs wrapped in American cheese slices, but he wouldn't touch half the foods I eat on a regular basis. He wouldn't even have pho. 🙄

Way back during the 2020 Democratic primary, I said that if a Democrat did win the election, they would have to prioritize prosecuting Trump and his allies and dismantling the shadow power structures driving the fascist movement. I also said Biden was worthless because he would never do that; he would be a presidential seat warmer. We would have four years of relative quiet and then back to Trump. Or worse. And I was right. And it's still true.

Pro-Israel Democrats need to get it through their heads that theirs is the fringe extremist view. It's over. It's not going away, everyone knows they sold out, and no one believes their bullshit anymore. They can suck up to AIPAC or they can win elections.

If the world worked the same for rich people as it does the poor, we would deduct the cost of all this fraud, corruption, fossil fuel profits and subsidies, military adventurism, police state bullshit, and other crimes against the country and humanity from the net worth of those responsible, and if they couldn't pay, they would go to prison basically forever.

Right-wingers are increasingly using what are very obviously men in drag as stand-ins for trans women for their rage bait videos because the evil blue-haired trans women they hate so much don't exist.

"AC just pumps the heat outside!" Yes, that's the entire point. "But won't that make things worse?!" No? Look, if it's already hot outside, it doesn't fucking matter. The heat from your AC unit is negligible. If you live in the city, the amount of concrete causes more of a heat island effect than AC does.

One of the surreal things about growing up was seeing people who agreed with me our culture was trash and the earth was dying just -- getting over it? -- once they got their job, their house, their career, their whatever. And then it was like it never happened.

In my experience, it's the fully comprehensible man-made horrors that are the worst. Unfathomable cosmic eldritch beings aren't the ones fucking us all over.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s, it seemed pretty obvious the people who wanted to hurt us would eventually exhaust either the public's sense of horror or the media's sense of honor in reporting on it, to the point open eugenics and genocide would cease to be scandalous. What I didn't realize, but should have, was that people would let it happen out of apathy and their sense of entitlement, their desire to be served and waited on, and the continuity of a banal, already harmful "...

"here's a fun lil exercise for cis people: how many articles would a publication have to print calling for your extermination before you would expect people who care about you to stop giving them money? and how would you feel if their excuse for still supporting them is some fuckass crossword puzzle?" https://bsky.app/profile/cait.bsky.social/post/3ms7ftsigak2i

At its base, the anti-trans movement is about ensuring AFAB people are desirable and available to cis-het men to fuck and that AMAB people either uphold this system and be killed in every way it is possible to be killed. No one is allowed to escape or cross that imaginary line. People try to confuse the issue but anti-trans is anti-queer, it's anti-abortion, it's Epstein, it's pedophiles, it's misogyny all the way down. That's why all these groups work together.

Democrats think they're being cute by walking back support for trans people in sports without acknowledging how harmful are the gatekeeping systems that result from this decision.

Fuck. You've got Democrats out here pushing data centers because that's what the money is telling them to do, and it's only slowly starting to dawn on them that voters HATE data centers.

"An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports **from kindergarten to high school** to undergo 'genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy' before they can play." This is what Democrats keep caving to in the name of "fairness." https://bsky.app/profile/gbbranstetter.bsky.social/post/3ms6l2b3uvc23

My recollection of the COVID lockdowns was they came too late and weren't enough and didn't last long enough but they were still the smartest and most humane thing I had seen this country ever do. So it's perplexing to me how many people treat it like the Year From Hell even when they didn't lose anyone or anything.

It was darkly funny when Kamala Harris called the US "the deadliest military on Earth" instead of the most powerful or the most effective. And even if we're not the deadliest, we're definitely up there! Actually winning wars, though? We really suck at that part. Unfortunately, that has never stopped us.

I've said this before but Trump won a comfortable but marginal victory in 2024, against an opponent who did everything she could to sabotage herself, and the entire media-political landscape treated him like Reagan 2.0, like his win was a massive sea change in favor of fascist politics which even the "heroic" Democrats were forced to embrace. And here he is two years later, the least popular president in modern history, and absolutely no one has decided to rethink that assessment.

I have always wanted to write a trippy novel about modern magic and how the more you change the world, the more it changes you. Because all the examples I find by other people turn out to be about some guy's cringe sex life and drug abuse. Granted, it occurs to me I might have already written that book. 🤔
