Yes, that's the entire point.

No? Look, if it's already hot outside, it doesn't fucking matter. The heat from your AC unit is negligible. If you live in the city, the amount of concrete causes more of a heat island effect than AC does.

All AC does is pump the heat back out into the environment where it came from. "But the coolant is a greenhouse gas!" Yes, but under normal circumstances, your AC unit should never be leaking it into the environment. The bigger problem is where the electricity comes from but most of us don't have a choice about that anyway. It's awfully rich when countries that burn methane in winter like there's no tomorrow complain about these things.
