My recollection of the COVID lockdowns was they came too late and weren't enough and didn't last long enough but they were still the smartest and most humane thing I had seen this country ever do. So it's perplexing to me how many people treat it like the Year From Hell even when they didn't lose anyone or anything.

@gwynnion@mastodon.social Same (though in another country). I remember it as the Year And A Half from Hell because I lived in near-total isolation the entire time (I saw other human beings in person a grand total of 2 times from march 2020 to june 2021), and the social life I'd managed to build up before got completely destroyed, and my mental health took a plunge it's never come out of. But it was still the right thing to do.
