Growing up in the 80s and 90s, it seemed pretty obvious the people who wanted to hurt us would eventually exhaust either the public's sense of horror or the media's sense of honor in reporting on it, to the point open eugenics and genocide would cease to be scandalous.
What I didn't realize, but should have, was that people would let it happen out of apathy and their sense of entitlement, their desire to be served and waited on, and the continuity of a banal, already harmful "normal."
