  You know that 4GB AI model that Google Chrome silently installs on your machine? Keep in mind that the Chrome team decided to do that because *they thought it was a good idea*. If user outrage is sufficient to cause that decision to be rolled back, they'll still push the same AI features, only hosted remotely instead of locally. If you're going to trust software from a development team somewhere, you are making a decision to trust their processes and to accept their pressures....

  I wish I could convince more people writing bash scripts¹ to start with a getopts block, then add a $usage variable above getopts that's printed in response to -h/--help, then a block of default variables & values above that which can be included in the help text, then a `set -o nounset -o pipefail -o errexit`² above that, then a function to trap ONEXIT that cleans up temp files & dirs. 1/2 ¹: yes, bash, the vast majority interpreter; though I respect sh and love ksh93...

  Infrastructure Team: great news! We built you a thing that automatically disables tests when they start failing! Us: we do not want that. Why did you build that? IT: if your tests are failing then they're not giving you any value anyhow! This way we get more capacity back from the test farm. Us: what will we do with this extra capacity? IT: run more tests!
