RE: https://mstdn.ca/@evdelen/117055331090002238 There is another explanation: #MarkCarmey could have just wanted to make all of these "concessions" notwithstanding trade negotiations - in other words, he wanted to make cuts or giveaways to industries and is using trade negotiations with the US as pretext. Either scenario is extremely concerning! #CDNPoli #Canada #CUSMA

This is the definition of insanity. We've tried this several times already and it hasn't worked, but perhaps this time it will. No it will not! Every single time #Canada has made a concession with the #US on #CUSMA (#USMCA) #DonaldTrump has found some other pretext to #Tariff us again. #MarkCarney, STOP MAKING CONCESSIONS! https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-u-s-booze-bans-trade-negotiations-9.7299529 #CDNPoli

For being the "most transparent government in Ontario history™" the #DougFord government sure loves participating in secret deals where they override the wishes of locals, all for no personal gain (🙄). https://www.thestar.com/real-estate/a-plot-of-abandoned-land-in-muskoka-is-at-the-centre-of-a-secretive-provincial-deal-residents-want-answers/article_dc2dd718-c8e8-4f38-8cc8-52a5dea8cadb.html https://archive.ph/hENXq #ONPoli #Ontario #Corruption

https://archive.ph/KWonH Well, if 1995-2003 - the Conservative Mike Harris years - are any indication, #DougFord is hiding a massive budget deficit and is planning to privatize and sell off public agencies to plug the budget hole. This is exactly what happened starting around 2001. The agencies being reviewed are: - Metrolinx - Workplace Safety and Insurance Board - Supply Ontario - Liquor Control Board of Ontario - Ontario Cannabis Retail Corporation - Legal Aid Ontario - Agricorp - Alcohol...

I do not know of a democratic governing administration, anywhere in the world, that has taken unilateral action in order to increase their term of office. ... Except in #Ontario. I wonder when the people of Ontario will wake up to the fact that an autocrat is sitting in the Premiers Office at Queen's Park. #ONPoli

I'd love to watch an episode of Hoarders where, but instead of someone who hoards things they visited someone who hoards money. To get visuals, rather than looking at spreadsheets, they could visit some of the "companies" and "ventures". That corporations call them "Human Resource Departments" instead of "Human Asset Departments" really says a lot about the culture that produced them. An asset is something that you value, that you invest in, that you want to improve. A resource is something that you want to maximally extract with minimal cost. I wonder how many Managers play management simulations? My experience with management in large companies has been composed of people who haven't a clue about rational resource allocation or evidence based decision making, they've always been people who upper management finds agreeable and loyal. That doesn't seem particularly meritorious, but it also doesn't have good outcomes vis-a-vis productivity, relations, etc. What a world we live in!

How can there be any faith left in the United States or its economy? They are systematically dismantling every safeguard or protection afforded to private interests, human or corporate, and vesting more power into the executive. If you run afoul of the executive branch - currently vested in #Trump, but #JDVance is only an extremely unhealthy heartbeat away - you can expect that any rights you may think you have are suddenly not there. https://mastodon.ie/@FSonder/116783604384957946 I'm reminded of the time in 2011 when #DougFord claimed, derisively, that there were more libraries in his ward than Tim Hortons. This was amidst a political debate around his brother/puppet Rob Ford attempting to drastically cut library funding. FTR, there were 13 library branches in his ward and 39 Tim Horton's outlets. And, Etobicoke, the Western 1/4 of Toronto, had the fewest libraries per capita across Toronto. #ONPoli
