  its a horrible mistake watching martin scorsese's cape fear this early in the morning BUT it does make me realize that i miss old scorsese movies AND bernard herrmann is just about the best film music composer ever.

  so hulu has a tv version of bret easton ellis's the shards. when i was actually reading on a regular basis, i did read a lot of the literary brat pack which consisted of ellis, jay mcinerney, jill eisenstadt, and tama janowitz. i REAALLYY liked bright lights, big city by mcinerney. apparently its minimalist but i found it very funny and entertaining, a thoroughly enjoyable reading experience. its written in second person so it was almost like reading a chose your own adventure book. ht...

  bright lights big city also reminds me that i was reading raymond carver around the same time. i remember reading cathedral thinking "wow! this is like reading hemingway. some editor just went in a chopped everything". the writing was very concise, sorta like cormac mccarthy. that being said, the titular story lives rent free in my mind for some reason and i have no idea why. its just such a compelling story for something so mundane. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_...

  @mcnado@mstdn.social my issue w the ED docs was that they really struggle w finding doctors willing to work rural areas. my health system is a very good example of that. also, when going to the ED in the town i was living in, i would have gladly had a PA or an NP treat me instead of some of the doctors, especially the one that would do spinal taps on EVERY SINGLE PERSON that came in with a headache. it was happening so often that everyone in the lab (including myself) complained.

  i messed up really really bad at work when i was still sorta training for my position that i started a few months ago and i might get fired. well, according to my manager, she doesnt think i will be fired for this but she doesnt really know how higher up management will want to deal with it.

  i just deleted my instagram account which ive had for like, 15 years. i feel weird because that basically ended the only contact i have with a lot of people ive known for decades (irl). since im not very sociable, this was how i socialized. i guess not anymore :/
