Could this tree survive on Mars? 🌕 On Mexico’s highest volcano, the Warrior Tree clings to the slopes at over 4,000 metres, forming a unique ‘sky island’ ecosystem. But decades of logging have destroyed up to 80% of the forest. So, together with Planet Wild and the Arbor Day Foundation, we’re helping it grow back 🌱 Download Ecosia to support projects like this 💚

24,000 trees growing back, thanks to your searches on Ecosia 🌳 This 12.5 hectare site in Brazil is part of our work with our partner IPÊ to restore the Atlantic Forest. Patch by patch, the forest is coming back – creating a corridor that lets wildlife move between forest areas in search of food, shelter and mates. Thanks for being part of it! And if you aren’t yet, download the Ecosia app and start planting trees with your searches 💚 #ecosia #atlanticforest #brazil #reforestation

It wasn't too late for this forest after all. Thanks to the hard work of our local partners IPÊ, this patch of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil is healing. It took 26,000 trees of different species and 3 years to bring this land back to life 💚 Now, animals can move through the forest again and biodiversity is making a comeback. Send this to someone who needs a little hope today ✨

EV batteries are linked to rainforest loss in Indonesia. Nickel mines in Sulawesi are causing extensive forest destruction, and their nickel goes to Huayou, a supplier for Tesla, VW and Ford. About 3,500 football fields of forest have gone, mostly primary rainforest, including Indigenous Tolaki land. EVs matter, but we also need less mining. Carmakers must protect forests and Indigenous rights across their supply chains. Protect rainforests. #EVs #Climate

This forest helped pay for a playground and a football field 🌳 In Verdelhos, Portugal, communal land is collectively managed by locals, and the income it generates goes back into the village. Together with GEOTA, we’re supporting the reforestation of these lands so the forest keeps working for the community. Search with @ecosia@mastodon.social to support projects like this 💚

This is what regeneration sounds like 🌳 In Honduras, we’re working with Paskaia to protect 150,000 native Caribbean pine trees as part of a a bigger project that began in 2021. By funding firefighting and forest protection, we’re helping these trees regenerate naturally from their own seeds, turning barren savannah back into regenerated forest. Follow Paskaia for project updates, and watch the full story on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBP4oBPpYPU

We’re burning this forest to bring it back. Together with our new partner Paskaia, we’re supporting Indigenous Miskito communities in Honduras, working to break that cycle. Local fire brigades patrol the land, build firebreaks and put out uncontrolled fires 🔥 But they also carry out controlled burns. Burning vegetation around protected areas removes fuel for future wildfires and can also help the pine forest regenerate by releasing seeds from its cones. 150,000 trees growing back 💚

Even trees need personal space 🌳 Crown shyness is when neighboring treetops leave river-like gaps between them. Scientists still don’t know exactly why it happens. One theory is that it could be the result of competition for resources such as light. Keeping a distance may also help prevent pests and diseases spreading from one tree to another. Next time you’re in a forest, look up ✨

We're working over 600 farming families in Kenya to plant trees, restore land, and improve livelihoods. Joseph and Mary have been planting trees since 2023, and now have almost 100 fruit trees on their small farm. They're seeing better fruit yields, healthier soil, and more income to support their family. This is what progress looks like. All funded by your Ecosia searches 🌱 #reforestation #ecosia

Sometimes the best thing you can do to restore a forest is… nothing 🌱 This project with our partner GEOTA in Portugal is a good reminder that restoring forests isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some areas are being left to regenerate naturally. Others are being restored by planting a mix of native species. The more we learn about how landscapes recover after fire, the better we can understand when to step in and when to let nature do its thing 💚 #ecosia #reforestation #wildfires

🌱 From 15,000 seedlings in 2019 to over 21,000 today. Israel's work in Nyamagabe District, Rwanda, shows what real growth really looks like 🌳 For 6 years, Israel has been growing saplings that eventually become Ecosia trees, partnering with us and One Acre Fund. Running this nursery provides him with reliable income to raise his 5 children and build long-term security for his family. This is what a forest recovering after a wildfire looks like. This landscape in Verdelhos, Portugal, has burned 4 times. But in this plot, we’re not planting any trees 🌳 It’s easy to assume that bringing back a forest always means planting. That’s not true. After a fire, surviving roots and stumps can resprout, while seeds can germinate 🌱 So here, together with our partner GEOTA, we’re letting the forest regenerate naturally and monitoring which vegetation returns. #wildfires #reforestation

What's fuelling Indonesia's fires? El Niño is making this year’s fires worse, but that’s not the whole story. Across Sumatra and Borneo, forests have been cleared and peatlands drained to make space for palm oil and pulp plantations. This has made these landscapes more vulnerable to fire. Real prevention means protecting and restoring natural ecosystems. None of our partners in Indonesia are currently affected, but we’re keeping a close eye on the situation 💚 #indonesia #wildfires
