EV batteries are linked to rainforest loss in Indonesia. Nickel mines in Sulawesi are causing extensive forest destruction, and their nickel goes to Huayou, a supplier for Tesla, VW and Ford. About 3,500 football fields of forest have gone, mostly primary rainforest, including Indigenous Tolaki land. EVs matter, but we also need less mining.
