It's getting to be that time of year. When the setting sun glows behind my hydrangeas as they first open, and then gradually turn pink and burgundy. #bloomscrolling

I'm quite open to identification help on any of these, but particularly this one #FungiFriday #mushrooms https://turtleisland.social/@dillyd/117017763104568849

Y'all, I saw so many cool mushrooms today! Starting with this stunning yellow Amanita. #FungiFriday

Possibly a frigid bumblebee? Seen on the south shore of montreal. The weather was super hazy and lighting was dim, and I couldn't get a better photo. I'm hoping this critter will stick around my goldenrod patch so I can get a better photo on another day. #bumblebee

Is this some kind of disease of the plant, or some kind of gall?

Wool carder bees are funny. If you get close to their flowers, they will dart around and hover, staring at you from different spots and angles, making it very clear this is their territory. They move so fast, I can usually only get good photos when they stop for a few seconds to copulate (which they do a lot). So I was thrilled when this one stood still long enough for a couple of closeups. I don't have a fancy camera or macro lens but this is not bad eye detail for a phone camera. #bee

Yeah I'm judging you. I think you're pretty cool.

I was looking at a big webworm web full of worms on my crabapple tree today, when I heard a rhythmic sound, and realized it was coming from inside the web. According to Wikipedia, "Larvae are known to wiggle vigorously at periodic intervals in synchrony." Here they are wiggling vigorously. #insects

Normally they retract into their shells when you pick them up, but this snail seemed really curious about the view. #snail

Our freezer got defrosted. The door was left open a crack, just enough to let in the air, but not quite enough to set off the open-door sensor alarm. It reminded me of a cool trick. My boss has a cabin where the electricity isn’t very reliable, but it's hard to know if there’s been a long outage. He keeps a coin on top of the ice cube tray. When he arrives at the cabin, if the coin is at the bottom of the ice cube tray, he knows to throw out anything else that was in there.

My physical therapist ran out of beige when taping my tennis elbow. I feel like some kind of Jean Paul Gaultier Wonder Woman. I think I like it.

It's 13C this morning with air quality as good as it gets here. I'm wearing a jacket! I feel the beginning of the end of the summer. I survived the worst of the summer, and the best season will be here soon. Here are some flower photos from yesterday evening, which was also glorious, breezy and no mosquitoes.

Every year the squirrels eat every single apricot from our tree, long before they're ripe. Then they move on to the next fruit tree for raiding. This year, they left five apricots behind. They've forgotten about this tree's existence now. Shhh don't tell them.
