Is this some kind of disease of the plant, or some kind of gall?

@dillyd@turtleisland.social Sometimes an onion flower will just grow a little onion bulb instead of setting seed. (And there's a variety of onions specifically bred to do that, walking onions.) But the colour on that doesn't look quite right, so an insect gall might be more likely.
