I was looking at a big webworm web full of worms on my crabapple tree today, when I heard a rhythmic sound, and realized it was coming from inside the web. According to Wikipedia, "Larvae are known to wiggle vigorously at periodic intervals in synchrony." Here they are wiggling vigorously.

As I watched, a wasp appeared, and started climbing around the outside of the web. According to Wikipedia, "Therion morio is a species of parasitic ichneumon wasp in the family Ichneumonidae. It is a parasite of the webworm caterpillar in North America."
