  Lunch was supposed to be a picnic on the Pecos, but smoky air drove us indoors. We decided to eat at Anthony’s Soul Cafe, which is said to have good fried chicken. When we arrived, I was a little worried, as the owner seemed to be awfully thin for someone running a soul food cafe, but the chicken, catfish, mashed taters & gravy, hushpuppies, coleslaw, and cornbread were all delicious, and I told Anthony as much.   In better #NewMexico news, the restaurant at the Castañeda Hotel in Las Vegas now has a full menu, rather than just tapas. My sweetie told me about this almost a week ago, but until now, the story was only posted to a FB page. In any case, we may end up taking the train up to Las Vegas to spend a night at the hotel one of these days.   A nice little bit of news from #NewMexico this morning. Not so nice for the rest of the country, though. Obamacare enrollment down an average of 15% nationwide, except for New Mexico, where it's up 14% year-over-year. The difference?   Finally used the leftover rice from Saturday to make a batch of rice pudding. * 3C rice * 11 oz can sweetened condensed coconut milk * 7 oz "lite" coconut milk (about a half-can) * 1/2 Tbsp vanilla extract * 1 egg Put everything but the egg in a saucepan and bring to a boil.   I have a directory of Mac alias files that point to other files on a drive. I need to move all of the drive contents to a Linux server. Is there a way to automagically convert the Mac aliases to soft-links on the Linux ext4 drive on the server? It doesn't seem to work on SMB. Anyone know the solution?   Chizh for Cheii has hit tough times again. They’ve got a bunch of firewood cut, but don’t have the money to split it or deliver it to Navajo elders.   In #NewMexico news, turns out That Man's war-of-choice on Iran has been good for state revenue.   After a dozen years or so, I’ve put the book I wrote in 1994 back online. It’s at https://meadmadeeasy.info/table-of-contents and covers the making of #mead, a beverage made from fermented honey. I don’t really have any plans to make paper copies again, but the hosting software I used (https://write.as/) claims to be able to export as epub if people are interested in the book in that format.   I have a “I wonder if this can be done” question about #ssh and #http. I’ve got a VPS on which I would like to stand up a few services that don’t (easily) do authentication, relying instead on .htaccess files and htpasswd. But I find myself wondering if I could set those up for localhost-only access on the server, and ssh-tunnel to the VPS, pointing my browser at the local tunnel port and things would just work without opening the server to the hordes of password-guessers by opening port 80.

  Well, bother. My #FuriPhone FLX1s ( #FuriPhoneFLX1s ) can see the T-Mobile network, but only shows 1% signal strength, and keeps dropping the network, at which point it needs to be rebooted to see the network again. I’ve submitted a support ticket, but maybe @furilabs will respond here?

  Beyond the fire danger, New Mexico also has now had its first hantavirus case of the year, right here in Santa Fe. Also seems early, but it’s been plenty warm for the rodents.
