I'm diligently reading up on medical cannabis laws and I keep seeing "strictly limited to ensure the sickest patients get it". ... Because of the finite quantity of weed in the universe? As "the sickest patients", I call bullshit. There is absolutely no relationship between getting the medication to me and limiting access for other people. That makes no sense.

There's a thread of USA folks explaining to each other why they're all born around September (it's because everyone fucks in the cold). This is fascinating because just a few days ago my family was discussing why every australian is born in October (because everyone fucks over the new years leave period). Adjacent to the classic [when a user tells you it doesn't work for them they are almost always right. When a user explains why, they're almost always w...

Imagine being a young singer in 2010, going to a music school and having them spend more than half the class time on responsible use of autotune. You tell them you're not singing into microphones at all right now and you don't have a computer, you actually want to learn about scales, reading music, warm-ups, how to engage the diaphragm, voice box anatomy and building out a repertoire. They tell you that before any of that you must learn how to use autotune properly and how not to use i...

I started animal lab tech training fairly young. A lot of what I learned was about how animals are and what we can do around them. Nature will be what it is, to achieve things involving animals we must know what they can and will do. It's useless to make a fence animals are capable of jumping then get mad when they do. It's silly to put an object that reacts badly to urine or chewing in any place where there are animals under your care and it's ridiculous to lecture the a...

Loving LLMs and hating trans people provides insecure white men the same thing that The Selfish Gene did: a source of authority that makes them always right and everyone else ridiculous. Incidentally it's the same thing God provides.

I'm going to start putting out the vibe that pensioner is the identity whereas UBI is the name for the payment. I live in a god's waiting room where 'pensioner' carries a similar weight to farmer: apparently it's embarrassing to be one so you have to go into every interaction blustering about how it's fine. You might have whatever feelings about being a pensioner or not, but qualifying for UBI is surely to be celebrated.
