I started animal lab tech training fairly young. A lot of what I learned was about how animals are and what we can do around them. Nature will be what it is, to achieve things involving animals we must know what they can and will do. It's useless to make a fence animals are capable of jumping then get mad when they do. It's silly to put an object that reacts badly to urine or chewing in any place where there are animals under your care and it's ridiculous to lecture the animal on politeness and respectability when this goes badly for you. If you put chipboard in an elephant habitat it's entirely your own fault when it's soggy wheatbix, you knew they could do that. This post is about public facing urban infrastructure.

"but they shouldn't" 99.9% of people don't. But there are fucktons of us and we have very diverse bodies, minds and ways of being. Many people destroy shit not intentionally but simply because it was designed for use by people different from themselves.

@coolandnormal@aus.social remember chatting to a tech at our local science education centre about the rigours the exhibits have to withstand and she quipped that there is industrial strength, military grade, then toddler proof.
