Good comments here from BC Premier Eby on the way that Carney is kowtowing to Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and “rewarding bad behaviour" by doing pipeline and carbon emission deals just with Alberta while setting "national policy”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Me9CmOLjhFw&t=178s #CanPoli #CdnPoli #ClimateEmergency

Congrats to Mayor @silas and the @TownofGibsons for their restoration of the Persephone! It was the little work boat on The Beachcombers. Such a great show. I used to watch it all the time. Pretty cool that BC Ferries contributed $25,000 to the restoration as well. But the amount of hours required to restore it would have been enormous! #BC #History #TV #Canada https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/where-is-the-persephone-boat-in-gibsons-9.7207444

TIL Nova Scotia makes wine!? Miss California? nope. ”I think we're making some gorgeous, gorgeous wines here in Nova Scotia and so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a Nova Scotia wine," said Reynolds, who used to work for the provincial wine association in the early 2000s. “"I think some Ontario wines are fabulous and British Columbia wines, if you can get your hands on any of them, are gorgeous, so I don't think we're losing much by giving up Ca...

I would prefer if they were on a smaller island, maybe Cortez or Texada. Pay the existing residents to go on vacation for the next 45 days… P.S. yesterday I was told about a hantavirus related anti-semitic facebook post from a person who I would have pre-COVID considered a good person. The COVID Pandemic and Facebook have really really destroyed people's minds and brought out the worst in many. :( https://cheknews.ca/b-c-s-provincial-health-officer-to-provide-update-on-canadians-retu...

As promised, I have implemented the suspension/block on mastodon.cloud. Folks on #SocialBC will not be able to interact with accounts on that server. This was done due to ongoing issues with spam and un-moderated user additions from that un-regulated and defunct server. The negative impact should be minimal as very few people followed accounts there or vice versa. #MastodonCloud #FediBlock #Fediverse #moderation #OpenInstance

Almost Victoria Day Long Weekend! ie. the “unofficial" start of the summer travel season. So that means, BC Ferries news! 😂 This is a good article with good data. The takeaway for me: there is a big old boat deficit at BC Ferries. IMO a) it *should* be fixed. b) all new ferries should be 100% electric ready. c) electric terminal infrastructure starting *now*. d) time to look at fixed links where possible. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/bc-ferries-deep-dive-2026-9....

Ever since I got my home router and put the Telus/ISP service on "bridge mode" I have been getting a constant merry-go-round of IP addresses that I think has been wrecking havoc with my home lab and wifi. This morning I woke up to no internet connection because the IP had changed yet again to an entirely different subnet. Everything eventually came back on its own. Currently on support-chat with Telus to try to get a Static IP. We'll see if I can convince them... #IS...

Norway, population 5.6 Million. 1/3rd above the Arctic Circle, and heavily dependent on oil and gas from the North Sea. And yet, their new-car sales were at 94% EV in January. 98 diesel cars, 7 petrol(gasoline), 29 hybrids. The rest were EVs. 7 gas cars is wild! But please tell me again that EVs don't work in the cold etc etc… #BCPoli #CanPoli #EV #Electric #Cars https://electrek.co/2026/02/03/even-after-cutting-ev-incentives-norway-only-sold-98-diesel-cars-in-january/

only in Nanaimo at VIU can you count more than 10 tiny nearly identical bunnies in all of 10 minutes. one new clutch of 5 perfectly black, tiny guys were munching grass in no more than a 10ft space just now. Multiple students were just standing quietly watching them like 🥹🥹🥹 this tiny fluffball was eating under the protection of a tree in the japanese garden this morning. there was a grey friend nearby. truly a hard life for bunnies #VIU #BunnyLife #animals #bewareTheRaptors

More good news today! According to Fedidb.com, #SocialBC has re-reached and surpassed its initial monthly active user count from a year ago. We're now at a tiny but mighty 67! Total number of accounts is 163, up from 102 a year ago. We're up 20 users from January, so it's been a good start to the year. (note that fedidb erroneously lists our servers as still being in Portugal, even though we have moved to Vancouver. Not sure when it will update) https://fedidb.com/s...

There was what appeared to be a very large crane being constructed at Cathedral Grove today. I assume it is to faciliate the safe removal or topping of more of the trees in the park. Because you know, it's a park, full of 500 year old trees. But you never know when one might fall. Because that happened once, in the past 100 years, during a wind storm. So we better top them or remove them. In a park. This is not an April Fools Day joke, but it sure is foolish #BCPoli #Tree #Cathed...
