@chris@socialbc.ca Haven't time to read the article yet, but in diplomacy this is sometimes called "framing". By declaring prior to negotiations what you will demand you are attempting to preempt participants from raising other issues, or addressing the agreed-upon topics of negotiation. Successful negotiators ignore the pre-negotiation 'noise', and solely address the agreed-upon discussion points. Only once they are resolved will they entertain additional topics.
