  Sign ups for Akademienl are now ≥30 fake registrations to 1 valid registration. Five-ish registrations a day. The signal to noise ratio has gone down the drain, and if that's the strategy, it is incredibly successful.

  so glad i set up the approval process for new accounts on ResearchEquals - already caught several potential issues. i am learning a lot about AI generated content, and they're getting very intricate. paper mills are passé, they're now coming to the various repositories etc to lay breadcrumbs of seeming authenticity. any repository/platform that does not do approval, is increasingly being weaponized for this. i am looking at several places that do not have active moderation...

  crossref decided to use XML 1.1 for the 5.5.0 schema (up from 5.4.0) XML 1.1 is not widely used or supported in 2026, so using it for "additional in-schema validation" is not worth it.   DOI registration using XML is a pain. I have ideas to make it as simple as one API call, but regrettably becoming a DOI registration agency is expensive af (read: ≥$35k/year) in the meantime, enjoy my slowly expanding Rust library to generate compliant XML. just added support for books.
