crossref decided to use XML 1.1 for the 5.5.0 schema (up from 5.4.0) XML 1.1 is not widely used or supported in 2026, so using it for "additional in-schema validation" is not worth it. Browsers don't support it for example (see image) afaik, this is a breaking change for a minor schema bump. down the rabbit hole i go as this creates a lot of downstream issues for my Rust crate `crossref-xml` cc @crossref @crossref.bsky.social https://www.crossref.org/schemas/crossref5.5.0.xsd
