  I added `defer` to crescent (lang) last night. Seems like a straight-forward win in languages that support it. It was also a suprisingly easy feature to add. Args are evaluated at deferral time, calls are made LIFO when the enclosing scope closes. Very suspicious of how simple it is actually. The only things I could think of were compiler warnings on non-unit return types and errors on `@must_check` and `@allocates` (will probably rename these annotations)

  After spending a grip of time surveying all of the mutable and immutable string type situations (and trainwrecks) in other languages back in 2024, I have found myself just revisiting it all again. I was planning on `str` being a special-cased type that treated as a value but this essentially leads to built-in accessor functions like `len()` and `bytes()` that have special visibility access into the internal struct...which is _ok_ but...

Other considerations would be if you are dealing with sig. ripple currents or frequencie, MLCCs are fragile and can either crack _or_ cause failed joints if there's a lot thermal cycling (they won't last decades) or otherwise high dT. 20 of anything in parallel to gnd means 20 times the leakage current. Frequency of currents also relevant, MLCCs will couple acoustic frequencies into the board which might be bad...and is of course reciprocal (e.g. sin...

  @jripley@mastodon.social Regarding ripple current, it's naturally problematic re electrolytics, but the opposite can be true with a grip of parallel low ESL MLCCs (some things need ripple current, obvs ckt dependent)...just throwin it out there. I think generally I only ever put a chonker electrolytic down these days: if it does save precious board space, building down to cost and there's a relevant assembly cost diff, actually need some outrageous voltage rating.
