  I remember the day I realized that, at light speed, time dilation is infinite, so when a photon extinguishes on my retina as I'm looking at the Andromeda galaxy, I know that it traveled 2.5 million years to get here, but from its own perspective, literally no time has passed. For some reason, I was filled with intense sadness at that realization. That was the same sadness that I felt when Hodor finally realized the sole purpose of his life, determined in the past by then-future events.

  I was listening to someone talk about what sounded dangerously close to an emotional connection to their AI assistant, and I couldn't help but think of that song from the 80s by The Tubes, "She's a Beauty". Watching the video again and listening to the lyrics, it's actually a really good parable for the AI age.   OK, for fans of the movie #TENET (and I realize I may be sort of alone on this one), I had a realization on my last watch. At the end (SPOILERS!), our protagonist, as he is learning details about his future, he's becoming more and more agitated, almost in tears, and other than sheer overwhelm, I couldn't quite reconcile that. But the thing is, he'd taken so much else in stride, I didn't think it was sheer overwhelm. 1/?

  The answer, I think, is that there are lots and lots of people involved, half of whom are coming from the future, having clearly been trained in the future. In fact, even the cohort who are going forwards in time must have been trained for the operation in the future and sent back to the past to participate forward. There is just one person missing from this operation: It's mastermind. Him. The protagonist. 3/?

  I have run multiple support teams in my career, and I have always insisted that the standard practice would be direct and complete answers where possible, additional questions where not. I never allowed my teams to simply say, "oh, check out this document" in response to a specific question which might or might not be answered by some text or subtext within that document. And today, with AI tools, it should be even easier to reliably achieve that standard. 1/?
