The whole idea that "the Internet is for ever" falls quickly appart when you actually go looking for "old" stuff. So many broken links, even in posts made in more recent times. Case in point, an episode from a podcast from 2020: you can still learn of it, as it remains on some podcasts aggregators, but it's gone from most others and the episode files are no longer hosted by libsyn, which appears to be the centralised single point of failure for a lot of the podcast worl...

This lentil salad is a bit like a roguelike, every bite is different, but it's consistent through regular ingredients and united by the sauce. Hmm, I wonder if there's a case for food reviews based on video game genres and tropes.

Some men are "resisting tofu", seeing it as a way to perform their perceived gender. (see: https://cupoftea.social/@robtherunt/116685911551892912) This has the hallmarks of reactionary stupidity: - scientifically unsound - rooted in imaginary genders, gender roles and gender expectations - cosplaying resistance to actual social and political issues, chipping away at the meaning and essence of legitimate social justice actions and activism Lots has been written on this (The Se...

What an absolute joy it is to get on your bike and feel and hear a small tear in your trousers rip and become a much bigger tear. In yet another pair of trousers. All weakened at the same spot, where the material rubs against the seat post. A morning treat.

If you are in #London and thinking of switching to a better ISP, Community Fibre is doing a good job overall. They sadly put their "lower" packages behind CG-NAT a year or so ago (anything under 2.5Gbps), but they are good with IPv6, and you get a static IPv4 on the higher packages (along with ridiculous speeds). They also give out decent Linksys routers, if that's your thing (SPNMX42 and now SPNMX57). This is my referral link https://communityfibre.co.uk/friends?ci=b...

Christian pastor says marijuana makes men ‘spiritually gay’ and calls for ‘nicotine men’ If only it did mate, if only it did. https://www.thepinknews.com/2026/06/03/joel-webbon-marijuana-makes-men-gay-nicotine-2026/ (obviously shouldn't even be boosting this, but the outrageous silliness of it is a bit like catnip)

"Le tribunal a estimé qu’« il existe un doute suffisamment important sur le fait que le terme “bougnoule” ait pu être utilisé en tant que surnom et non en tant qu’insulte destinée à atteindre Aziz en raison de son origine », écartant ainsi la circonstance aggravante de racisme." Dans quel monde en tant que surnom ça ne serait pas raciste ? Wow, Facebook is just inherently, irredeemably old and uncool. This ad is just so tone deaf and cringe, putting it up in Shoreditch won't make up for that.

I find myself more and more not finishing articles about yet another depressing situation, in this specific instance how so much #EdTech is actually basically crap (https://jacobin.com/2026/05/educational-technology-children-learning-iready). I get halfway through and get angry thinking "we need to do something about this!". This happens with a conscious but tiring feeling of confirmation bias, "ah yes, another way that for profit (tech) ruins what it touches, great&a...

#PikaBackup is very nice, Borg backups for everyone, with a usable, every day user first interface. I've set it up for my mum. Now, I'd really like to be able to monitor that backups are humming along nicely, and be warned if they failed. Anyone managed that?

Trans people just want to live their lives, what is so hard to understand about that? Sadly, the article is almost certainly right that this is a "first they came for the trans, but I didn't s...

#Olio is an app to fight food waste. It let's you find food that would otherwise go off, give food, but also things. As the goal is decent, I was willing to overlook some of the bad, starting with it not being FOSS. A few years ago, the web version of the service was killed off. Hmm. Then, they introduced selling items, which rather went against the initial idea of the platform. Now, there's a classic / illegal "consent" screen when you open the app, and it&...

Is Lightyear still the best live #punk band in the UK? Who cares, that's stupid question, there is no best, but fuck me are they wonderful live. The level of fun of a Lightyear gig is hard to match, and while they don't care whatsoever about being "pro" and other music industry trappings, they are musically excellent and the songs have aged really well. I mean, not that many #ska bands have songs that start in 5/4 or complete genre shifts in a single song, whi...

I love that "turn one-off results into a repeatable, scalable process" is touted as a reason to use Claude for Excel: wasn't that basically the point of Excel in the first place?
