  I was recently sent to a workshop by my day job on the new AI-first (-only?) development methodology they want us to switch to. I can't help but think that a system that has LLMs generating reams of code but puts the responsibility on engineers to understand all of it feels like a bit of a con - and unsafe. Like a software version of the idea that humans should be immediately ready to take over from self-driving cars when they can't cope with an emergency.

  We're going to Curacao next month! 🙌🏿 Of course I've been looking at info online, but wondered if any of the Mastodon nation had any tips or recommendations? I think we'll be trying snorkeling and scuba, and I'll definitely be looking for good street and scenery photo opportunities, plus great food of course!   The smoke from the Dovestones fire is like nothing I've ever known short of being around building fires. I'm almost 40 miles away right now and the air absolutely stinks of smoke. You can see the haze in the air, and my eyes have been itching even when inside the house - which also smells. All because some idiots decides to let off fireworks on tinder-dry moorland, which they then laughed about.

  A thought/feeling that bubbled up over the weekend... Many of us who work in software development are being told loudly and often how excited we should be that AI can* now write code - so we can concentrate on other things instead. It's weird to me that anyone would expect people who chose a profession/field of study based on their interest in an activity to be bubbly and enthusiastic about *not* getting to do it any longer. *quality/accuracy/basic function may vary

  Ok, so here's something that's been bothering me for a while. I *despise* the word "content" the way it's now used. The phrase "content creator" and the bundling of so many things under that term. What is "content" in English? It's the description of something that fills a container. Is that the best we can do? Would people truly describe whatever it is they do as mere "filler"? If so, no wonder all this AI slop is being foisted onto us....

  My goodness, I'm so tired of AI. Every presentation, every department meeting, I'm being told how much we need to lean into AI, how much we need to make it a part of our regular routines. There's almost no other topic of conversation.   Having to buy prescription sunglasses is so annoying - they're expensive up-front, and then they need re-lensing as your eyes change, instead of just being something you can keep. I'm currently in a dispute with a company who sent a pair back with a bent frame *and* a chip on a lens. Have also chosen a new pair for a different style - and explicitly ruled out Ray-Ban because I don't want to be associated with those weird Meta glasses!
