#threegoodthings 🪟 - we’ve hit 30+ degrees again and this is the first time my window hack (emergency foil blanket over the panes) has been tested in this heat - seems to be working! 🪟 - I’m taking steps to actively ‘unspiral’ myself rather than being fractious and abrasive (except a tiny bit of abrasiveness 🫠) 🪟 - I’m learning to be kinder to myself regarding my health issues, and not to feel guilty to give myself a break if I need it

I feel like the BBC just stopped short of adding ‘…you idiot! Of course you know what one is, why are we even answering this questions?’

@Gaolaitch@cupoftea.social bet you wish you’d processed this! https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/26294952.70s-rock-legend-played-rod-stewart-supports-charity-shop/

So, I successfully finished cleaning and sanding my garden bench today and started the staining. Felt quite happy I’d managed to avoid staining myself, until I saw that I’d managed to catch a bit in an unfortunate place on my ‘duck man’ tattoo* *origin artwork by Juanita Rogers appears on the back cover of the REM album ‘Lifes Rich Pageant’

Thinking I’m gonna buy myself some shorts. And wear ‘em. I have extensive self harm scars on my legs and my left calf is deformed from having muscle removed as a result. Back in the day, I was in danger of losing that leg and an arm; the work to salvage them wasn’t done with aesthetics in mind. It’s only this year that I’ve shown my arms, and had tattoos to kinda celebrate their ‘unveiling’. Uncovering my legs seem like a good next step, but… 1/2

And just like that, 4,000 unresolved patient safety reports were ‘gone’. “They sat on my dashboard for a very long time then disappeared one day. I don't know whether they've been dealt with. I doubt it." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c6212klngkko

#chappel #viaduct #sunset #train #railway #facts The Chappel viaduct was built between 1847 and 1849 and spans 1,060 feet (320m). One of the largest brick-built structures in England, it uses over 7 million bricks and reaches 75 feet in height.

#genesis #horizons #bach My current obsession being listening to the Genesis album Foxtrot, I really love the track ‘Horizons’ (*really*, like play-at-my-funeral love), but it has a familiarity I couldn’t put my finger on. Found out it was ‘heavily inspired’ by Bach’s Prelude from Suite No 1 in G Major for solo cello.

So, I had cause to do an emergency hot wash yesterday and in the ensuing rush I accidentally included my new #Casio #GShock #GBD300 into the load… An hour and a half later in a 90 degree wash, did it survive? 🫣 Yes of course it did! (Though it recorded 1124 additional steps 😅) I wouldn’t recommend *deliberately* doing this, and I’m not sure if the B2100 with its mechanical parts would have fared as well, but I’m mightily impressed!

Can someone please explain ‘snitching’ for me? My theoretical understanding is that if someone I don’t like steals a chocolate bar I’m allowed to tell on them but if one of my friends commits murder I can’t? Where are the lines? Are there any? Why am I currently feeling bad about a bad thing someone I like did when they don’t/won’t. There is no scenario where I remain happy, tell or no tell. Dear friends, don’t do illegal stuff in front of me and presume I’ll choose to be complicit 🫠

#spoonerism @Gaolaitch@cupoftea.social might need a hand finessing this one… What’s the difference between the ex-Leicester City captain’s toilet habit and a Frenchman asking you which language you speak? One is Vardy poo and the other is parlez vous… (Jamie Vardy… I initially thought he was Varly, which would’ve been better. As is, we’re now *slightly* short of genius)

Just started watching Murder On The Orient Express, the worst version. I’ve seen it before, but I don’t watch sport and it’s slightly better than the pap I often find myself turning to of an evening. Besides, it’s been a weird day body clock-wise, I’ve just had my lunch. Weirdly, the dogs seem to be happy to follow this, we’ve spent a good 12 hours this ‘morning’ listening to the radio.

#readersofmastodon #reading #books #bookstodon So, I haven’t completed a book in a looooong time. Like, I can’t remember. It’s been years. Every few months I start a book (usually a new one) with the intention of getting into a regular reading habit, but I always bail out after a few chapters. Pretty sure it’s not the books fault. How can I get back into it? (I have time/can make time, but am hugely undisciplined and easily distracted - think I’m answering my own question right here)

@Gaolaitch@cupoftea.social Thought you might appreciate this - it’s local(ish) to you (I didn’t see any CCTV - the warning evidently works, they daren’t show their lenses down that street)

Dear local creative enterprise, I wish you well and all but I can’t take you and your exorbitant pricing for a precise, presumably timed, *five minutes* of colour therapy seriously because you have confused ‘palette’ and ‘pallet’. *There’s a difference*

#threegoodthings (today’s second edition) 💭 I fell asleep whilst listening to a radio documentary about corporate spies and dreamt someone put a note through my door reading ‘I’m watching you, back off’ and I was more annoyed by the vagueness than scared by the threat 💭 Met a dog walker chum who didn’t know the footie was on, doesn’t own a telly and has a really good pup 💭 Ate what I think was a plum from my what I think is a plum tree, first fruit in my eight years living here

Has anyone ever done, officially or not, a reverse relay race? So, 4 x 100m (or 400m) but when you hand over the baton your teammate is going the opposite way. The relay recipients get the same ‘run up’ they’d get in the regular race, just the other way. Is this a thing? If not, what’s stopping it being a thing? Surely not chaos, it sounds like FUN. #athletics #trackandfield #olympics #running #relayrace

#casio #casiocult #watchesofmastodon #watches Now, I *love* watches, especially if they’re Casio and especially if they’re classics. But this reference is probably my worst Casio in terms of practicality. I don’t hate it - far from it, I love the graph paper background, the ani-digi innovation and the super cool method of setting the time. BUT… it is a bugger to see the time on either face (teeny hands/bad angle) and it’s a total fingerprint magnet! What’s your ‘worst’ watch?
