gods help me, the stars have aligned and my brain is actually enticed by the prospect of farming "angels" points system that the local bikeshare system uses already done a bit this evening, came back to charge my phone a bit and grab my portable battery, and probably gonna go out and do another half dozen short rides, lots of pickup/dropoff combo opportunities in my area tonight. I know that it's doing cheap labor, but I was going to ride one of my bikes tonight anyway (and two o...

Lesson N+1 in "don't do maintenance immediately before a ride" today Anyway, I lost my raleigh's axle nut and the bike is still rideable but permanently in its high gear (+25%) until I get a replacement. What a week it's been.

I cannot really overstate the damage that back-to-back meetings do to my morale in case anybody needs to hear this: you need to schedule a gap. it doesn't have to be a long gap, but it should be at least 5 minutes. doubly important if your meetings regularly run over.

I've gushed here before about the excellent retro-modern arcade game Utopia Must Fall which lights up the part of my brain that enjoys a game of Missile Command, and feels like the future of gaming someone was thinking of 50 years ago. Last month they released a big update to the game, and it makes a great game even greater. New enemies, progression, music. What was the end-game in the older version feels like the mid-game now, based on what's shown off in the trailer. https://store.st...

«I asked why this was being repeated without opposition. Was it just sales fluff? The answer was a lot more interesting…Executives at their customers were saying absurd things about achieving 100x productivity, and this meant that if any executive at the vendor said that these gains were not plausible, it would undermine the credibility of the customer’s executive, be perceived as an attack (or heresy), and possibly result in an enterprise contract cancellation.» Very good read on "AI&quo...

I can't remember if I've talked about it here before, but there's this story idea rattling around in my head about the player/reader inhabiting a control system on-board a cargo hauler that becomes accidentally sapient but the corporation accepts this as an inevitable maintenance issue, and over the course of the story, other automated systems kick in to (gradually) kill the nascent intelligence I don't know if it can really be expressed as a game that is any fun, but if I squi...

LB: I'm so tired of roads designed to kill people, and that there is so much resistance to even acknowledging that this is what they do, let alone doing anything about it. Many people in the Boston Cyclists Union knew Laura personally and are devastated by this loss.

This bit of quoting AIRPLANE! at baked goods isn't even something I came up with with any real intent. It's just a line that comes to me when I stick some baked goods (and *only* baked goods) in the oven. I guess it might vary depending on how nerve-wracking it is, so it's a magick spell often invoked the first time I cook something. (I have never cooked kolaches or with boudin before, so this is kind of a two-fer)
