I can't remember if I've talked about it here before, but there's this story idea rattling around in my head about the player/reader inhabiting a control system on-board a cargo hauler that becomes accidentally sapient
but the corporation accepts this as an inevitable maintenance issue, and over the course of the story, other automated systems kick in to (gradually) kill the nascent intelligence
I don't know if it can really be expressed as a game that is any fun, but if I squint I can maybe make out how to make an IF 'experience' out of it

I've always thought of it as a necessarily in-space story but as I think about it for the Nth time I realize that maybe it'd work just as well for a ship at sea. the time-scales are different, but setting it on a planet does tighten the narrative (nowhere to run)
