  hmm. I wonder if in any other group someone who generated and validated key unpublished reagents in a study or someone who analyzed the data or designed experiments would be an author.

  Well, we'll see how this goes. I just contacted a grant writer. The grant is in the funding grey area, recommended for funding but it wasn't in the top 10% so with the current administration who knows. PO suggested I get help with grant writing because the complaints all seemed to be that the reviewers misunderstood something--although I realize it could just be they just didn't like it that much.

  A heads up AA folks, Lowes on Carpenter had all of their $6 seedlings on sale for $2.50 yesterday--likely trying to clear out their stock before the cold snap tonight. I picked up some very healthy looking eggplants and tomatoes--did not see any peppers that I wanted. We didn't get frost here last night so their stock is probably still good it might be a chance to pick up some quality seedlings cheap.

  Whoa! I got behind on my seed starting so took my bitter gourd and snake gourd seeds into work and popped them in the 37C over the weekend after an overnight soak. Snake gourds all have 1inch roots, going to take them home and pot them. The Indian bitter gourdes ~50% have 0.5-1cm roots, probably going to take them home. The chinese bitter gourdes have done nothing, they get another day or two.

  How did my glutes get so weak?! I realized several of my leg problems are because my glutes are way too weak. Remembered snickering at my stepmom swearing by doing leg curls lying on the bed, and damnit if she wasn’t right!! Been doing a handful before bed and it’s making a difference.

  *sigh* putting together figures for a paper where we don't have resources to repeat any experiments. Learning that many of the images were taken with a damaged objective. I guess this is good evidence that we didn't use AI to make up the data.

  Perennials and overwintered garden produce. It’s not going to make a dent in the household budget but it is a tasty hobby. Rhubarb stems off the flower stems we trimmed, overwintered kale and turnip, sunchokes, and shiitakes.

  For people not dealing with the continued stranglehold on US science, we are still not seeing new NIH or NSF grants get funded. Normally NIH is less than 1% of the federal budget and NSF is 0.1% of the federal budget. If you are a US taxpayer, where are your tax pennies and dollars going? Are you ok with this?

  This pink oyster mushroom bucket in my office just won't quit!! Basically, it starts fruiting as soon as I remove the previous cluster (although they are getting smaller each time). This is #4, #3 happened when I was out of town and dried out.

  So over at bsky ppl are commenting on a booktok discussion about not reading prologues or epilogues because if they were meant to be read they would be in the book?! But this got me thinking, do people read those songs and poems often at the start of fanstasy novel chapters or when embedded in them? I think the lord of the rings broke me for ever reading those. They were always completely useless, and sooo long. Maybe I’m just not sophisticated enough to get what he was trying to do with them.

  More on my anti-AI approach for my grad seminar course. I've posted before that we're doing an in-class assignment that should be relatively easy if you answered the short homework assignment yourself. My favorite type of question here is draw out the pathway that you described in words. I actually don't think we have any or many students using AI this year, but this has revealed a lot of misconceptions that I don't think we'd see without it.
