Does anyone use stevia or other sugar substitutes in custard desserts (tapioca, flan the custard not the caramel)? What works? Trying to keep A1C in healthy levels without drugs. #cooking #diabetes

  • @MCDuncanLab@mstdn.social Monk Fruit tends to be best with desserts, less aftertaste but stevia is fine. Stevia is better with fruits and yoghurts but good as a general replacement if you don't get the after taste that some people do. Also good in tea as a sugar replacement.

@MCDuncanLab@mstdn.social at the risk of replyGuying , I've tried rice pudding with sugar substitute, anything less than 2/3 sugar, would not recommend

@MCDuncanLab@mstdn.social in my view (as a longstanding T2D victim), better to reduce the frequency of desserts than compromise on the sugary goodness of a great custard. I will make pastis de nata ~ 3 or 4 times a year and do not compromise on the sugar 😎

  • @MCDuncanLab@mstdn.social as a long time T2D person, I would say what works has to be what works for you; everyone is different I would also say, far as I know, most cases of at least early T2D are "lifestyle" as a change in lifestyle will really reduce your A1C but that is hard, eg going from a car commute to a bicycle commute is not always possible or even easy good luck !!
