  Before I knew that 10,000 step thing was just a pedometer marketing thing—that’s 5 miles!—I thought it was a kind of crazy target. Because I wasn’t sure how people who didn’t take intentional walks, commute on foot and/or walk constantly at work could reasonably hit it. Anyway, what’s your step count in a typical day?

  I recall being told as a kid in the ‘70s that Mercedes-Benz handle design—like my 1973 450 SLC—was a safety feature: Doors could be pulled open by rescuers. Being conscious of this is why Tesla-style designs have always made me nervous—that’s even before all the electronic nonsense.

  Good golly—reminding me of a similar break under Sunset Boulevard several miles west between UCLA and the Bel-Air Country Club. Also so big it took forever to fix. This intersection has been incredibly important in my life. That small yellow sign to the left is Book Soup and the building with Supreme logos—directly across the street—used to be Tower Records.

  Trump's such an intense fanboy of the British royal family that Charles is probably one of the only people who might be able to get away with criticizing Trump without winding up on the receiving end of Truth Social screeds. Of course, he might not have noticed the brutality of Charles' speech at all. Americans generally miss a lot of withering British commentary anyhow because it's communicated subtly, and Donald Trump is the densest American.

  Interesting to learn we're less than a few weeks from the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth. I was once at Winchester Cathedral, looking up at something else, when I realized I was standing on her grave. Which seemed rather rude.
