Berlin’s Pleasure Victim and Missing Persons’ Spring Session M were both released in October 1982.
And while 11-year-old Mats tried to decide whether he were more into Terri Nunn or Dale Bozzio—as if he had a chance with either haha—a major element of the attraction was that their songs were so smart. ‘Masquerade’ and ‘Metro,’ ‘Words’ and ‘Destination Unknown.’

Spring Session M had so many bangers. Of course ‘Walking in LA’ was so goddamn clever. (Nobody walks in LA, only a nobody walks in LA.) And my favorite track is generally unknown to anyone who isn’t specifically a Missing Persons fan: ‘Noticeable One’ I’ve probably seen Missing Persons (mostly Dale Bozzio performing as Missing Persons) more times than any other act. I was hooked from the moment KROQ started playing the hell outta ‘Mental Hopscotch’ before they even had a record deal.
