My grandmother passed away in April and her beloved cat is up for adoption in Novato. Abby is kind of a one-person cat from what we've seen. She adored Grandma but had no interest in the rest of us. I think she would be perfect for someone who lives alone and wants a dedicated companion but doesn't have other pets or a lot of people coming in or out (especially kids). Abby is 6 years old. Please feel free to share the listing. I really want her to find a new home. https://www.petfinde...

I’m not loving the dog’s new habit of sleeping with her eyes half open!

I was feeling curious so I had a friend look up my college boyfriend on linked in (I myself am locked out of LinkedIn and being self-employed, don’t care enough to deal with it) because I was remembering that he told me in college that I was the smartest *girl* he knew. And since then he has gotten a masters at UC Davis, an MBA at Yale, and a PhD at Oxford, so he probably feels great about himself. However two things that I think are funny: 1. He had to take the remedial upper division writ...

I live next door to a chain pizza restaurant which, being a chain pizza restaurant, isn't the best pizza in town but it's good enough and it's NEXT DOOR. The franchisees are a Sikh family from India: middle-aged mom and dad and a few adult kids are the main employees, plus Grandpa who just sits in the parking lot and feeds pigeons. A year or so ago I made a point to introduce myself to the mom because we were always waving at each other. Now we say hi every time we see each other,...

Yesterday was a long day: Real de Catorce is 3+ hours from the city of San Luis Potosí, and almost 9,000 feet altitude. The last 24 km of this trip is a cobblestone road. The guide who drove us (his Nissan Versa did much better with the climb and cobblestones than I would have thought) said that the government repaved it recently, in cobblestones, because it adds to the charm and the theme of the old mining area. He paused and said, “It’s really beautiful but definitely impractical.”

People always ask why I keep going to Mexico. Don’t I get bored of it? Don’t I want to go somewhere different (I do sometimes). But the truth is that each region in Mexico is so incredibly different that I do not get bored, not at all. Al contrario, I love learning about the history in each place. This trip, I have learned a tone about the virreinato (viceroyalty) which is when Spain ruled Mexico and is a bit different from colonies, for example, that the British did. I’ve also been learning...

I ate grasshoppers in guacamole today! I’ve seen them offered in Mexico many times and have never had the nerve and today I did. They were crunchy and I offensive but it helps if you can not look at them.

Has anyone logged into kaiser lately and gotten a wall of text and something a bout accepting or declining something HIPAA? I don't feel like I understand this well enough to make a decision and it won't let me do anything else until I do.

My 20-something trans cousin got up today at our grandmas memorial and talked about being afraid to come out to grandma because “she was already sick and what if she didn’t accept me and then she died when we weren’t ok.” Grandma was 88 when J came out to her by text; she had never knowingly met a trans person and very very few gay people. My cousin spent two days waiting for the answer and when it came it was “I love you so much” with a ton of heart emojis. It took two days because grandma w...

I’m as annoyed and angry as anyone about what’s happening at/to the White House but weren’t enslaved people forced to build it? Maybe it shouldn’t be this revered symbol.

At this point I don’t want Steyer in the general solely because I cannot handle his ads and mailers any more. So many mailers. So, so, so many unrecyclable (because of the shiny coating) mailers.

there is an unhoused guy who was living in front of the park on the corner. He's got a cart with a bunch of stuff and a camping chair and tarp and kind of made his own space there, hangs out all day and sleeps on the sidewalk. He moved across the streett in front of McDonalds which makes a lot of sense because I see people (I can see out my front window) offering him food and beverage a lot. The problem now is that during the day he either sits in his camping chair (fine) or stretches...

Remember that former student in prison who asked for money and books? I sent him some books from amazon and told him I couldn’t send any money and he did not push back at all but thanked me for the books. So that’s good. This is all over fb messenger and how does he get that in prison, i have no idea. But he’s reading and not asking me for money so those are good things.

"The billionaire who draws a white supremacist affiliated symbol on his hand and made his fortune off for-profit prisons, coal, and oil is the progressive choice is MAKING ME CRAZY" Also if anyone wants a well thought-out statement on why Steyer isn't the progressive choice, this is from Vote Strong Sonoma: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xK0LVh_PgLgl3Et5512UqeZoJnhuyOkk4xOSDQl7q2I/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.qfnftk85ahhn

#knitting folks: Has anyone purposely and successfully shrunk a hand knit garment? I do NOT want to restart, mostly because of the part shown here, but I tried it on and it’s just a little looser than I want. Do we think I can successfully shrunk it down just a little?

Tom steyer draws the Jerusalem cross on his hand every day (Pete hegseth has it tattooed on him) to “remind him to tell the truth? A symbol that’s been a symbol of the Crusades and now Christian nationalism? Cool…. Cool…

I think I’ve told you all about how much Zora loves men. (Human men). She loves humans in general but she LOVES MEN. She’s met a few trans men lately and I here to report that Zora says: Trans men are men. She doesn’t differentiate between trans and cis men.

I sent Kaiser a records request for all my orthopedic records from 1983-1997 (scoliosis as my nephew has it and I want to show him that mine was much worse and make him not worry) They sent me... all my immunization records and my surgery records from 2018-2025 not even close? At least they got the right person I guess

Ever since Zora got the clearance for unlimited walks, all she wants to do is walk. I can’t keep up. We went on a walk and here she is with her “why don’t you take me on a walk” face. I have other things to do, Zora!
