I live next door to a chain pizza restaurant which, being a chain pizza restaurant, isn't the best pizza in town but it's good enough and it's NEXT DOOR. The franchisees are a Sikh family from India: middle-aged mom and dad and a few adult kids are the main employees, plus Grandpa who just sits in the parking lot and feeds pigeons. A year or so ago I made a point to introduce myself to the mom because we were always waving at each other. Now we say hi every time we see each other, and she cannot pronounce my name but she tries every time. And every time I go next door to buy pizza, she presents me with a free Pepsi and thanks me repeatedly for coming. It's very sweet. I don't like Pepsi, but I can't tell her that because it's a thoughtful gift and I would NEVER hurt her feelings, so now I need to find someone who wants my all my Pepsi!
