People always ask why I keep going to Mexico. Don’t I get bored of it? Don’t I want to go somewhere different (I do sometimes). But the truth is that each region in Mexico is so incredibly different that I do not get bored, not at all. Al contrario, I love learning about the history in each place. This trip, I have learned a tone about the virreinato (viceroyalty) which is when Spain ruled Mexico and is a bit different from colonies, for example, that the British did. I’ve also been learning a lot about the war for independence (against Spain), the second Franco-Mexican war (cinco de mayo) and the Mexican revolution (pancho Villa). I also learned a little about general santa Anna who lost half of Mexico to the US) and more about Porfirio Diaz, the dictator who inspired the Mexican revolution. I hadn’t known that Mexico changed its name and its constitution after the revolution: before that it was El Republico de Mexico and now it is Los Estados Unidos de Mexico.
