agree? disagree? here's the latest lengthy debate https://github.com/w3c/wcag/issues/4460 (but there are a few other past/parallel discussions, like my pull request https://github.com/w3c/wcag/pull/1790) #a11y #accessibility #barrierefreiheit

@patrick_h_lauke@mastodon.social Yeah, I am planning a short video for my own adversarial conformance series — I just want to wait for the ‘official’ WG response on that thread.

@patrick_h_lauke@mastodon.social Wait ... that's a thing? We don't have video editors that can just create a bit of space when that's the case? :-O

@patrick_h_lauke@mastodon.social @SteveFaulkner@mastodon.social When we are auditing videos, our evaluation is solely based on the question whether all relevant information is conveyed through audio. This can be, of course, an AD, but if the regular audio track does already fulfill this purpose (in most cases: a narrator talking, visuals are just decorative), we also consider this passing the SC. If the video has no audio gaps for the AD (while there is additional visual information conveyed), we consider the lack of pauses as irrelevant and thus a violation of 1.2.3 and 1.2.5. We recommend our clients to take care of this during production of the video.

@patrick_h_lauke@mastodon.social @jbigham@hci.social I’m in the middle of an argument that the solution (for didactic pieces) isn’t pausing the video to allow time for descriptions but to write the scripts so visual elements are described for *everyone* and writers/narrators who refuse to do this for teaching videos should be flogged. Opinion?

@patrick_h_lauke@mastodon.social I don’t understand on what planet it’s cool to pass something without audio descriptions, when the dialog just says “these two things” and you point to something on screen… Why is this even an argument?
